Brent Celek is American football tight end who plays for the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have been a team with a winning history and were proud the hoist the 2018 championship trophy for the National Football League or NFL. Coming out of college, Brent was considered to be a very good prospect but not an elite or can’t miss draft pick. Tight ends aren’t usually selected at the top of the draft so it wasn’t a surprise to see where Celek eventually ended up on draft night. He got drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. The cold weather conditions of Philadelphia would be familiar to Celek after playing college football for a university located in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Brent Celek began his early football career by playing high school football at the La Salle High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Like most NFL prospects, Celek excelled early and was recognized for his talent when he was named to the first team, and all district for his senior and junior level seasons. He set the record for his high school after receiving a pass of 89 yards long. 89 yards may not seem that extraordinary at the pro level but it was an amazing feat for a high school level player to accomplish. Celek did not just excel at football during high school. He was a complete athlete and tried his hand at other sports. He was on the varsity track and field team for over two years in shot put and the discus throw.
It was obvious that Celek possessed the speed and power needed for an athlete to pursue a living in sports. He played college football for the Cincinnati Bearcats and his was first year there was under the coaching of Rick Minter. After Minter’s departure, Celek’s head coach for his final three seasons was under Mark Dantonio. He earned football awards and accolades in college just as he did in high school. He was the recipient of the UC Claude Rost Award as he was named the most valuable player and he was also on the second team for the All Big East Conference. Getting on the second team for a big time conference would help Celek’s draft stock in the upcoming draft.
According to his biography, Brent Celek had parents that went by the names of Debbie and Steve Celek. Brent is one of the older siblings in a family that has five total children. Fittingly, one of his younger brothers also followed his path to playing professional football. Brent’s brother Garrett even played the same position of Tight End. Garrett attended a different school by going to Michigan State but he ended up playing for the same college coach as Brent. Mark Dantonio coached Brent at Cincinnati but years after he would end up in Michigan State to coach Garrett. Unfortunately, Garrett wasn’t a high profile player coming out of college like his older brother. He was undrafted and not selected by any teams in the draft. Garrett eventually got a shot in the NFL when he signed to join the San Francisco 49ers.
Brent Celek was married to Susie and his wife is involved in the sport of boxing. They were college sweethearts and have been together since the time they were dating while they were both attending the University of Cincinnati. Brent and Susie’s marriage did not last as the relationship ended up in a divorce. After their divorce, Susie started to make out with Jimmy who is a WIP intern. It was all for fun though as it was the part of the Morning Show Stunt where they were recreating a GodDaddy Kiss Commercial. Even though it was intended to be a joke, it is not known if Brent cared about it or if he was just indifferent to it.

Brent Celek became a wealthy man when he had signed the 13 million dollar contract for the duration of 3 years when he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. The contract also included a signing bonus of 3 million which was an excellent perk for Brent. Most NFL contracts only come with small guarantees because of the nature of the spot. The owners of teams can’t take the risk of giving guaranteed money to a player when the risk of injury and possibility of not being able to finish a contract is so high. Safer sports like baseball and basketball are more likely to hand out guaranteed contracts. Celek was fortunate to get 6 million dollars guaranteed from his average salary of 4 million dollars.
Brent Celek was not invited in the year 2007 NFL Scouting Combine because he wasn’t expected to be a top round pick but he was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fifth round. The Combine is usually just reserved for players that are expected to be selected in the first three rounds. Celek signed a usual rookie contract of four years with the Eagle in 2007. Celek had an impressive rookie season and set franchise records just like he did in his college and high school years. He set the Eagles franchise record for total receiver yards during the game when he had 131 yards in week 9. Along with the 131 yards, Celek caught two touchdown passes. The record setting game came against the Arizona Cardinals. Celek continued his stellar play into the playoffs. During the playoffs, he caught 19 passes.
Celek received the starting tight end position for the Philadelphia Eagle when former starter, L.J Smith decided to depart through free agency when he signed with the Baltimore Ravens. After scoring a touchdown in a week 9 home game against the Dallas Cowboys, Celek was penalized for excessive celebration. The NFL has been trying to reduce the amount of celebrating because they feel like it is bad sportsmanship. After the game, the penalization of Celek was reviewed and lifted but he was warned not to repeat the same thing again. When his contract expired with the Eagle, it was renewed for six years.
