Brigitte Macron is a French educator and the wife of Emmanuel Macron, the President of France. She was born Brigitte Marie-Claude Trogneux on April 13, 1953, in Amiens, France. The youngest of six children, she was raised in a prominent family that owned the Chocolaterie Trogneux, a well-established confectionery business founded in 1872. Her parents, Simone and Jean Trogneux, were well-known figures in the local community.
Brigitte Macron began her career as a literature teacher. In the 1980s, she taught at Collège Lucie-Berger in Strasbourg. Later, during the 1990s, she returned to her hometown of Amiens to teach French and Latin at Lycée la Providence, a Jesuit high school. It was at this school that she met Emmanuel Macron, who was then a student and significantly younger—24 years her junior. At that time, Brigitte was married and a mother of three.
In 1974, Brigitte married André-Louis Auzière, a banker, with whom she had three children: Sébastien Auzière, an engineer; Dr. Laurence Auzière-Jourdan, a cardiologist; and Tiphaine Auzière, a lawyer. Brigitte and André-Louis later divorced in 2006. The following year, in 2007, she married Emmanuel Macron. The couple has maintained a close personal and professional relationship, and Brigitte has been a constant presence throughout Macron’s political career.
Following Emmanuel Macron’s inauguration as President of France in 2017, the French government clarified that Brigitte Macron would not hold the official title of First Lady, nor would she be allocated a formal public budget for her activities. However, President Macron emphasized that Brigitte would remain active in public life and maintain her long-standing support role, stating she would "not be hidden." Despite the absence of an official title, Brigitte continues to play a visible and influential role in various cultural, educational, and charitable initiatives.
