Busta Rhymes is an American rapper, record producer, and actor who was born on May 20, 1972, in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York City, New York to Geraldine Green and Trevor Smith Sr. His real name is Trevor George Smith Jr. and his parents are from Jamaica but at age 12 his family moved to Uniondale, Long Island, and then eventually to the United Kingdom. Rhymes spent time growing up in Liverpool and Morecambe, England before ultimately returning to the United States and attending George Westinghouse Career and Technical Education School in Brooklyn. There, his classmates included future rappers such as "The Notorious B.I.G." and "Jay Z". Rhymes also attended Samuel J. Tilden High School with two other rappers named "Special Ed" and "Chip Fu" of "Fu-Schnickens". Finally, Rhymes graduated from Uniondale High School in Long Island in 1990. His music career had already begun taking off by the time he graduated high school. His first East Coast hip-hop group was called "Leaders of the New School".
The group began recording in late 1989 and their first album released in 1991 on Elektra records titled "A Future Without a Past". He went on to sign a deal with Cash Money Records in November 2011 but he left three years later due to creative differences. He has been named as one of the top "50 Greatest MCs of Our Time" and Steve Huey of AllMusic called him of the most prolific rappers of the 1990s.
