Case Keenum was born on February 17, 1988, in Brownwood, Texas, United States. His full name is Casey Austin Keenum. He is the son of Steven and Susan Keenum and spent most of his childhood in Abilene, Texas. Keenum is best known for his career as an American football quarterback.
Keenum attended Wylie High School in Abilene, Texas, where he was a multi-sport athlete, participating in football, basketball, and track. As a quarterback for the Wylie Bulldogs, he gained recognition for his athletic ability and leadership on the field.
In 2004, Keenum led the Bulldogs to victory in the Class 3A Division I state championship by defeating Cuero High School. One of his standout plays included a 39-yard touchdown run, which played a crucial role in securing the state title for his team.
Following his impressive high school career, Keenum received attention from several college football programs, including the Baylor Bears, North Texas Mean Green, and UTEP Miners. However, only the University of Houston Cougars extended him a scholarship offer, which he accepted.
Keenum began his college career at the University of Houston in 2006. He redshirted his freshman year to develop his skills and was later named the starting quarterback in 2007, debuting against the Oregon Ducks with 179 passing yards. In a subsequent game against Tulane, he threw for 183 yards and a touchdown, earning him NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision National Performer of the Week honors from CollegeSportsReport.com.
Keenum quickly became a central figure in the Cougars’ offense, starting in 13 games in the 2007 season. In 2008, he passed for more than 5,000 yards, joining only one other player in university history to achieve such a milestone. He also helped lead the Houston Cougars to a long-awaited bowl victory and was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year.
In 2009, Keenum led the Cougars to a strong 10–4 season. However, his progress was halted in 2010 when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament during a game against UCLA, sidelining him for the rest of the year. Despite the injury, Keenum rebounded, and in 2011 he was once again named Conference USA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. That October, he set an NCAA record by throwing nine touchdown passes in a single game.
In 2012, Keenum joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Houston Texans and initially joining their practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster in 2013 and made his first start against the Kansas City Chiefs, throwing his first career touchdown pass during the game.
Keenum had a journeyman career, moving between multiple NFL teams. He spent time with the St. Louis Rams (later the Los Angeles Rams), where he briefly served as starting quarterback. In 2014, while back with the Texans, Keenum earned his first NFL win in a game against the Baltimore Ravens. He later rejoined the Rams and contributed to three team victories in the 2015 season.
Over the years, Keenum also played for the Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, Washington Commanders, and Cleveland Browns, gaining a reputation as a reliable backup and occasional starter in the NFL.
Case Keenum married Kimberly Caddell in 2011. The couple has maintained a relatively private personal life while balancing family with the demands of a professional football career.
