On February 27, 1980, Clinton was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Hillary and Bill Clinton. Her name was inspired by a trip to London's Chelsea district during a Christmas break in 1978. Bill observed, "If we ever have a daughter, her name should be Chelsea," Hillary said after hearing Judy Collins' 1969 recording of Joni Mitchell's "Chelsea Morning."
Clinton accompanied her parents on a campaign trip across Arkansas for her father's governor candidacy when she was two years old.
She began reading and writing at a young age. Clinton claims that she began reading the newspaper at three and wrote President Ronald Reagan a letter when she was just five years old. In the letter, she requested President Ronald Reagan not to visit a military cemetery in West Germany that contains the graves of Nazi troops, which her father photocopied and saved. Clinton attended Little Rock public schools Forest Park Elementary School, Booker Arts and Science Magnet Elementary School, and Horace Mann Junior High School. She didn't go to third grade.
Clinton was raised in her father's Southern Baptist faith as a youngster, then attended her mother's United Methodist Church as an adult.

She was a co-chair for the Clinton Foundation's fund-raising week and later became Vice-Chair of the organization. She is a member of the School of American Ballet's board of directors and IAC's board of directors. Clinton was appointed to the board of directors of Expedia Group in March 2017.
