Ernest Clayton Walker Jr. is a country music performer from the United States. He made his debut in 1993 with the single "What's It to You," which charted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) chart and was followed by "Live Until I Die," which charted at No. 2 in 1994. Both singles were featured on his self-titled first album, which Giant Records published in 1993.
Ernest Clayton Walker Jr was born on August 19, 1969, to Ernest and Danna Walker in Beaumont, Texas. He grew up in Vidor, a city in western Orange County, Texas. He is the oldest of five children. Although the family comprised many members, Clay was the only one to show a natural gift towards music. At the age of 9, his father bought him his first guitar, and at the age of 15, he started entering music competitions.
As a teenager, he was employed as a nighttime desk clerk at a Super Eight Motel, but he quit his job when one of his songs was played on a local radio station. The morning disc jockey said it was "too good to pass up," so he played it even though playing self-submitted tapes was prohibited according to the station's policy. Upon graduation from the Vidor High School in 1986, Clay started working at the Goodyear Tire firm.
Clay Walker has stated more than once that James Taylor is one of his greatest inspirations. He said that he learned a great deal about country music from Tayor, who he never forgets to mention as his hero and mentor.
After graduating from high school, Walker wanted to try his best to pursue his vision of becoming a country music superstar. He created a day planner and planned the steps he would take over the following five years.
Walker married Lori Jayne Lampson, a rodeo queen before his debut single was released. MaClay DaLayne, born on January 14, 1996, and Skylor ClayAnne, born on May 14, 1999, were their two daughters. In 2006, the couple divorced. On September 28, 2007, he married model Jessica Craig, with whom he had four additional children: a son called William Clayton, born August 5, 2008, and a girl named Mary Elizabeth, born December 27, 2009. as well as two additional songs, Elijah Craig and Ezra Stephen, who were born on November 4, 2017. Walker and his wife welcomed their fifth child, a son named Christiaan Michael, in January 2021, according to a press release dated August 7, 2020.
Following his diagnosis in 1996, Walker has been involved in various charitable endeavors, including his non-profit organization, Band Against MS, which he started in 2003.
In 2008, he was honored with a Humanitarian Award for his MS[74]-related philanthropic work, and he took part in a charity golf tournament to support his organization. [page-break]
Clay Walker battled Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 26. His doctor even said he'd be in a wheelchair by 2000 and dead by 2004. Still, Clay kept his devotion towards his music. "A lot of people say the human spirit is stronger than diagnosis or prognosis. I still believe that. The most important thing I feel a person is born with is the will to live," he said to a radio interview. "We're all born with that. I refuse to buy into the concept that because I had MS that my life would be less fulfilling. Your life can be even more fulfilling because you now have a cause. We all have a cause, and it just takes some of us a long time to find it. Those who have MS are more acutely aware of it." He also added that his medical condition partially influenced his relationship with his music. In addition, due to his MS (Multiple Sclerosis), he began a non-profit charity called Band Against the Disease.
Clay Walker has released four Platinum single albums since the beginning of his career, with the first Platinum being his first single titled "What's It to You." He is additionally famous thanks to other nationally loved songs like "If I Could Make a Living, " Dreaming with My Eyes Open," and "Live Until I Die." "Live Until I Die" was his second single and second consecutive Platinum song. It reached Number One on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.
When describing his music, Clay said, "I feel like I'm probably the most versatile right now that I've ever been, meaning I have a vast range. I can sing low and high, and I haven't lost; I've expanded my content since I started, and it's something that I feel like I can showcase better now, but I still think the main thing that people identify about my voice and my music is the soulfulness. To me, when I look back as a legacy, I would love people to use that word if they were going to describe me as a singer and say, "man, he was one of the most soulful people I ever heard sing. "
