Clemence Guichard was born on November 30, 1982, to French actor and writer Étienne Guichard and a teacher. She received her education at La Source, a bilingual alternative school in Meudon, where she studied in both French and English. Her first stage experience came at a young age when her father gave her a minor role with just two lines in one of his productions.
The influence of her father, a seasoned actor, writer, and theater director, played a significant role in Clemence’s decision to pursue acting. Adopting her mother’s surname as her stage name, she became professionally known as Clémence Poésy. Despite not considering herself a socially popular student, Poésy found solace and purpose in the performing arts.
For her formal acting education, she studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur d'Art Dramatique (CNSAD), the Atelier International de Blanche Salant et Paul Weaver, and later, the University of Nanterre. Beginning her career with French television, she appeared in series such as Les Monos (1999) and Un Homme en Colère. She then acted in Franco-German productions including Olgas Sommer (2002) and Bienvenue chez les Rozes ("Welcome to the Roses", 2003).
Thanks to her bilingual training, Poésy transitioned to English-language productions. Her first major English-speaking role was as Mary, Queen of Scots, in BBC's 2004 mini-series Gunpowder, Treason & Plot. Her performance earned her the 2005 Golden FIPA Award for Best Actress in a TV Serial, drawing international attention to her talent.
This acclaim led to her casting as Fleur Delacour in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005). Her portrayal of the graceful French witch became a fan favorite and solidified her presence in international cinema.
Poésy's career expanded further with a role opposite Colin Farrell in the dark comedy In Bruges (2008). She then appeared alongside James Franco in 127 Hours (2010), directed by Danny Boyle. Returning to the role of Fleur Delacour, she starred in both Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010) and Part 2 (2011).
She has also been active in television, featuring in popular series such as Gossip Girl (2007), Birdsong (2012), and the BBC miniseries War & Peace (2007). Through these varied roles, Clémence Poésy has demonstrated her versatility across genres, languages, and historical periods.
Less known to the general public is Poésy's success as a fashion model. She has appeared in several fashion magazines such as Australia's Yen and Nylon. She has also graced the covers of i-D and Jalouse, a French fashion magazine. Poésy served as the face of Chloé’s fragrance, which was not named after her as previously claimed, but she did contribute to its branding campaign. Additionally, she has modeled for Gap, a leading American fashion label.
Poésy was once rumored to have been in a relationship with actor Max Irons. She has been in a long-term relationship with Emeric Glayse, and the couple is reportedly engaged to be married.
Her estimated net worth is approximately $7 million, accumulated through her work across film, television, and fashion. With a following of over 26,900 on Twitter, she engages with her audience by sharing insights about her roles and upcoming projects. Her official Twitter handle is @c_poesy.
