Colt McCoy, an American football quarterback, was born in 1986 in Hobbs, New Mexico. He is the eldest of three children born to Brad McCoy and Debra Kay. McCoy attended Jim Ned High School in Tuscola, Texas, where his father served as the head football coach.
During his high school career, McCoy earned recognition as a two-time Associated Press 2A Offensive MVP and was named a First-Team All-State selection. As a sophomore, he briefly played free safety but suffered a concussion during a tackle against Bangs High School's 215-pound running back, Jacoby Jones. Following that injury, his father decided not to let him play defense again. His high school accomplishments laid the groundwork for his future in college football.
McCoy attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he played under head coach Mack Brown for the Texas Longhorns football team. After redshirting his freshman year in 2005, he became the starting quarterback in 2006 and remained in that role through the 2009 season.
In 2006, McCoy threw his 27th touchdown pass against Oklahoma State, setting a then-school record for the most touchdown passes in a single season by a Longhorns quarterback. His outstanding performance across all four years earned him a share of the team MVP award each season, a unique achievement in the program's history.
McCoy's collegiate accolades include winning the Walter Camp Award in 2008 and being named a finalist for the Heisman Trophy in both 2008 and 2009. He was the runner-up for the award in 2008, signifying his status as one of the top college football players in the nation.
McCoy chose to return for his senior season at Texas instead of entering the 2009 NFL Draft. He was later selected in the third round (85th overall pick) of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He signed a four-year contract worth $5 million.
Following his time with the Browns, McCoy also spent time on the rosters of several other NFL teams, including the San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Redskins (now known as the Washington Commanders). Always known for his leadership and work ethic, McCoy has built a respectable professional football career.
Outside of football, Colt McCoy enjoys hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He is married to Rachel Glandorf, whom he proposed to on live television. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch tall, McCoy remains a well-regarded figure both for his athletic achievements and his personal character.
