Doris Burke was born on November 24, 1965, in West Islip, New York. As an enthusiast for the game of basketball, she discovered her passion from a very early age. Doris got married to Gregg Burke. They met for the first time while she was playing in a basketball game. He was the sports information director for a women’s team, and he commented that she played aggressively. They started to spend a lot of time together and one night Doris asked Gregg if he’d like her to take him out for a beer.
Though she asked him out first, he was the one who proposed, bending one knee on the Cliff Walk on Valentine’s Day, in 1990. They got married immediately and had their first daughter in 1993. Their second child arrived in 1995.

When I left high school, I told myself I was going to get a major in education and be a high school teacher and coach. That was definitely the original plan”.
