Edith Ann Tarbox, professionally known as E.D. Hill, was born on July 27, 1962, in Dripping Springs, Texas. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism. During her time at the university, she was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority.
Hill has been married three times. Her first marriage was to Marc Phillip Weill in 1989; the couple divorced in 1995. She later married David Donahey. In 2002, Hill married venture capitalist Joe Hill, with whom she has two children—a son and a daughter.
Hill began her journalism career in the late 1980s, initially working as a video jockey (VJ) for VH1. She transitioned to news broadcasting, gaining national recognition in 1998 when she joined Fox News Channel as a host on the morning show Fox & Friends. She remained with the program until 2006.
Between 2000 and 2005, Hill also co-hosted the syndicated radio program The Radio Factor with Bill O’Reilly. She went on to anchor midday and afternoon segments on Fox News Live before hosting her own program, America's Pulse, which aired until it was canceled in 2008.
Following her departure from Fox News, Hill joined ABC in 2008 as a co-host on the daytime talk show The View. She also contributed to GBTV's coverage of the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida. In 2011, she joined CNN as a news anchor, further establishing her prominence in American journalism.
Throughout her career, Hill has received several accolades. She was awarded a local Emmy for Outstanding News Special while working at WHDH-TV in Boston. In addition, she received the Golden Quill Award, recognizing her excellence in journalism.
Hill is also a published author. Her works include Going Places: How America's Best and Brightest Got Started Down the Road of Life and I'm Not Your Friend, I'm Your Parent, both of which explore themes related to personal development and parenting.
In 2008, while working with Fox News, Hill drew widespread criticism for describing a fist-bump between then-presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle as a "terrorist fist jab." The remark was widely condemned and led to significant public backlash.
In 2010, Hill publicly shared that she underwent a preventative double mastectomy due to a strong family history of breast cancer—her mother and grandmother were both affected by the disease. Her openness about the procedure brought attention to preventive healthcare decisions among high-risk individuals.
