Emer Kenny, born Emer Gwynne Morganna Kenny on October 10, 1989, in Haringey, London, England, is a British actress and screenwriter of Welsh and Irish ancestry. She grew up with three siblings and attended North London Collegiate School in Edgware, graduating in 2008.
Kenny made her acting debut in 2007 with the BBC television drama Coming Down the Mountain. In 2009, she appeared in her first film role as a supporting character in Phil Claydon’s comedy horror Lesbian Vampire Killers.
She went on to portray the character Kate in the BBC television film Freefall, directed by Dominic Savage. A pivotal moment in Kenny's career came in 2010, when she joined the cast of the EastEnders spin-off series EastEnders: E20, taking on the role of Zsa Zsa Carter. She reprised this role in the second season, while also contributing as a writer—a first step in what would become a successful screenwriting career. Kenny's character was later written out of the series as she shifted her focus to other professional opportunities.
In addition to acting, Kenny wrote an episode for the third season of EastEnders: E20. Her talents as a writer were further recognized in 2011 when she was selected as the youngest-ever participant in the prestigious BBC Writers Academy. There, she was trained to write for several prominent BBC dramas including Casualty, Holby City, and Doctors.
That same year, Kenny was cast as Danielle Reeves in the BBC Three comedy-drama Pramface, showcasing her versatility in both comedic and dramatic roles. More recently, she portrayed Bunty Windermere in the long-running BBC period mystery series Father Brown, further solidifying her presence in British television.
Emer Kenny married television and radio presenter Rick Edwards on May 28, 2016. The couple wed at Kew Gardens in London after being together for five years. They maintain a relatively private life while remaining active in the British entertainment industry.
