Georgie Gardner was born on June 1, 1970, in Perth, Western Australia. She attended Dalkeith Primary School and later completed her secondary education at St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls. After high school, Gardner spent two years in Milan, Italy, working as a nanny for an Italian family. During this time, she learned Italian and traveled extensively throughout Europe.
Upon returning to Australia, she pursued her studies at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), where she earned a diploma in performing arts with a specialization in media performance.
Gardner began her media career in radio, starting with a cadetship at Radio 2NX in Newcastle, New South Wales, in 1992. In this role, she was responsible for news reading, reporting, and writing. She then worked as a news presenter at 2DAY FM until 1997, when she transitioned to television by joining Network Ten. At Ten, she served briefly as a reporter and presenter on Ten News.
Her national profile grew during her tenure at the Seven Network, where she co-anchored Sunrise alongside Mark Beretta. Initially a morning news program, Sunrise evolved into a morning public affairs show. Gardner remained with the program for two years before taking on various roles as a substitute presenter across Seven News and Sky News Australia.
In 2002, Gardner joined the Nine Network. She became a news presenter on National Nine News and handled afternoon news updates. She also anchored the afternoon edition of National Nine News, solidifying her presence within the network. Renowned for her versatility, Gardner is the only Australian late-night news presenter to have appeared on all three major commercial networks: Ten Late News, Seven Late News, and Nightline, Nine’s late-night news program.
During her debut year in broadcasting at Radio 2NX, Gardner was honored with the RAWARD (Radio Award) for Best Newcomer in Australian metropolitan radio. This prestigious recognition marked an early highlight in her journalism career, establishing her credibility within the industry.
Georgie Gardner is married to Tim Baker, and the couple has two children. They reside in Sydney, New South Wales. Gardner enjoys photography and gardening and has a deep appreciation for Italian culture, influenced by her time living in Italy.
She is actively involved in charitable work, particularly supporting organizations focused on underprivileged youth. Gardner lends her time and efforts to causes such as The Oasis Youth Support Network and Redkite, both of which provide crucial services for disadvantaged young Australians.
