GoldLink, born D'Anthony Carlos on May 17, 1993, in Washington, D.C., is an American rapper known for blending hip-hop with electronic and dance music influences. He was raised by working-class parents—his father was employed in parks and recreation, and his mother worked as a legal secretary. Following his parents' divorce, GoldLink relocated first to Bowie, Maryland, and later to Alexandria, Virginia, where he graduated from Hayfield Secondary School.
GoldLink began making music as a hobby, initially uploading his tracks to SoundCloud. His breakthrough came in 2014 with the release of his debut mixtape, The God Complex, which garnered critical acclaim for its unique fusion of hip-hop, dance, and electronic production. This mixtape established GoldLink’s innovative sound and caught the attention of both fans and industry professionals.
Following the success of his debut, GoldLink released his second project, And After That, We Didn’t Talk, in 2015. The album featured well-received singles such as "Dance on Me" and "Spectrum," further solidifying his reputation as a forward-thinking artist.
On March 24, 2017, GoldLink released his first studio album, At What Cost. The album featured the Grammy-nominated single “Crew,” which peaked at number 45 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The track, featuring Brent Faiyaz and Shy Glizzy, became a breakout hit and marked GoldLink’s entry into mainstream recognition.
In 2017, GoldLink was selected to participate in "Red Bull Sound Selects," a curated music program that included artists such as Kelela, Angel Olsen, and Brika. This opportunity allowed him to collaborate and share stages with a diverse range of musicians, showcasing his versatility as an artist.
In 2018, GoldLink was featured on "Like I Do," a track from Christina Aguilera’s album Liberation. The collaboration earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap/Sung Performance, further validating GoldLink’s growing influence and vocal delivery within the broader music industry.
