The nanotechnology specialist, James M. Tour was born on 1959 in the New York City. Dr. Tour completed his Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Syracuse University. And completed Ph.D degree from the famous Purdue University.
Dr. Tour has done his researches on the area like nanoelectronics and carbon Nano-vectors. He even studied on green carbon for environmentally friendly oil and carbon super capture, splitting of water and water purification. He developed different techniques and ideas to impede the chemical attacks of the terrorists.
He involved in works to create an innovative and creative learning environment for the kids. In this regard, he developed and evolved nano cars and Nanokids which are an interactive learning DVD for kids to improve their fundamental in chemistry and physics. He developed hero Guitar Hero package to teach Science concepts to the school students.
SciRave is one of the most used programs in Texas to provide students the guidance to the students in science. This program got over 1 million downloads and is currently used by 40,000 teachers.
He served for 11 years as the faculty of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry University of South Carolina. Later, in the year 1999, he joined the Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology at Rice University.
Dr. Tour seems to have a love affair with science, and he has 600 research publication and 120 patents, 600 research publications, and over 120 patents. His research publication and patents has an H-index = 123 and i10 index = 509 with total citations over 69,000.
In the year 2015, he admitted the National Academy of Inventors. He was the list in" the most 50 Influential Scientists in the World Today" in 2014. R&D Magazine even named his as Scientist of the Year in the year 2013.
For Tour's contribution to science, he has received many awards. He was ranked among the 10 best chemist in the past decade in 2009. In 2008, he was awarded by Nasa Space Act Award in 2008 for his development of carbon nanotube reinforced elastomers. In 2006, he received the Southern Chemist of the year from the American Chemical Society. The scientist has received many national and international awards for his contribution.
Dr. Tour and his team developed a Nano car at Rice University. He was even awarded Honda Innovation Award for Nano cars in 2005. Apart from this, he has received many national and international awards for his contribution to science, but the scientist has yet not received a Nobel Prize. Dr. Tour is married to Shireen G. Tour and currently living in Houston in Texas. The net worth earned by the scientist is not publicly.
