Jane Leeves, born on April 18, 1961, in Ilford, Essex, England, is an accomplished English actress, producer, singer, comedian, and former dancer. She was raised in Crawley and East Grinstead, both in West Sussex. From an early age, Leeves trained in ballet at the prestigious Bush Davies School of Dance. Her aspirations for a professional dance career were halted by an ankle injury, prompting her to transition into modeling and eventually acting.
Leeves began her on-screen career with a role in the film Monty Python's The Meaning of Life (1983). One of her early television appearances included being a featured performer on The Benny Hill Show, where she was part of the comedic dance troupe known as Hill's Angels. These roles led to further opportunities in both British and American television.
In 1993, Leeves gained international fame for her role as Daphne Moon on the hit NBC sitcom Frasier. Her character, a live-in housekeeper and physical therapist from Manchester, became a fan favorite and a central figure in the show's ensemble cast. During the eighth season of Frasier, Leeves became pregnant, and her real-life pregnancy was creatively incorporated into the show's storyline.
In addition to live-action roles, Leeves has lent her voice to several animated projects. She voiced characters in films such as James and the Giant Peach (1996) and The Penguins of Madagascar. In 2010, she appeared in a guest role on the ABC series Desperate Housewives, portraying Dr. Graham, a therapist for main characters Lynette and Tom Scavo.
Jane Leeves has been married to Marshall Coben, a CBS Paramount Television executive, since 1996. The couple has two children and resides in Los Angeles, California. Despite her primary success in television, Leeves continues to engage in diverse creative projects across film and voice acting.
