Jason Michael Lee was born on April 25, 1970, in Santa Ana, California. His father managed a car dealership, while his mother was a homemaker. Lee was raised in Huntington Beach, California, and attended Ocean View High School. During the 1980s and 1990s, he built a successful career as a professional skateboarder. He became a notable figure in the skateboarding community and appeared in the influential skate video "Video Days," produced by Blind Skateboards, which remains a landmark in skateboarding culture.
After gaining some recognition through minor acting roles, Lee decided to shift his focus entirely to acting, retiring from professional skateboarding. His breakthrough role came in 1995 with Kevin Smith’s cult classic film "Mallrats," where he played the character Brodie Bruce. This role helped establish him in Hollywood and led to further collaborations with Smith as well as diverse roles in both independent films and major studio productions.
Jason Lee is best known for his role as Earl Hickey in the NBC comedy series My Name Is Earl, which aired from 2005 to 2009. His performance as the well-meaning but misguided Earl, a man seeking karmic redemption by making amends for his past wrongs, was widely acclaimed. For his work on the series, Lee received two Golden Globe nominations for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy in 2006 and 2007. He was also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2006 for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series.
Jason Lee has been engaged three times and married twice. He shares a son named Pilot Inspektor with actress Beth Riesgraf. In 2008, he married Ceren Alkac, a Turkish-born actress and model. Together, they have three children: a son named Sonny and two daughters, Casper and Alberta. In addition to his work onscreen, Lee is known for his photography and his continued involvement in the skateboarding community through his company Stereo Skateboards, which he co-founded in 1992.
