Jim Brown was born the son of a professional boxer Swinton Brown and homemaker Theresa. Jim attended Manhasset Secondary school. Apart from football, he held exceptional records in other sports such as basketball, lacrosse, track and baseball during his high school years.
Jim attended Syracuse University in 1954. During his junior years, he rushed for a total of 666 yards. He went on to set many school records. To this day he holds the record for highest rush average in a season and the most rushing touchdowns in a single game which was six. Jim Brown was selected in the first round of the 1957 National Football League Draft by the Cleveland Browns. In only a short span of 9 years, Brown set the record for most career rushing, total touchdowns, all-purpose yards and rushing touchdowns. He was the first player ever to gain 100 rushing touchdowns in NFL history. During his career, Jim Brown’s team won the NFL championship in 1964 and were close to winning in 1957 and 1965. Jim Brown ran for 1,863 rushing in the 1963 season, a record that remains as a franchise record for the Cleveland Browns.

In 1968, Jim was accused of throwing his girlfriend from a second story balcony. He was convicted for smashing his wife’s car in 1999. He was sentenced to six months in jail for not attending counselling in 2002. Unfortunately Jim never seemed to learn his lesson throughout the years. The reported acts of violence were several years apart meaning Jim never managed to get his anger under control.
Jim married his first wife Sue Jones in 1958. The couple have three children Kim, Kevin and James Jr. They divorced in 1972. Jim also had children from other marriages including Shellee from Brenda Ayres, Kimberly from Kim Jones and Karen Brown Ward.
