Jim Brown was born on February 17, 1936 in St. Simons, Georgia. Brown is a former <a href="/biography/jim-brown">American football fullback</a> who played for the Cleveland Browns in the National Football league. Jim brown is often referred to the greatest American football player in the NFL’s long and amazing history. In the modern era, the nod of the greatest is usually given to player like <a href="/biography/tom-brady">Tom Brady</a>. Before <a href="/biography/tom-brady">Tom Brady</a>, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Montana">Joe Montana</a> was considered to be the greatest of all time according to football fans and the football journalists and media. The argument of who the greatest is can lead to a long debate because it’s hard to compare players from different eras. They played under different rules and against different players. Even though the discussion will never have an absolute winner, Jim Brown will always be involved in the debate because he dominated with a lot of force in his playing career.

Jim Brown retired from his football career at the early age of 30. It was a surprising decision because he was so young. If he had played longer, he would have been able to set more records than he already had. If he didn’t stop playing, there would likely be no debate on who the greatest player ever is. He would have been able to leave no questions as he would have just won multiple championships for his team. Some speculated that he begun to get bored with football. Since he already accomplished so much in the sport, his soul started to crave new challenges. Movie execs would not have to sell him as an actor to the public because he was already in the mainstream field of vision. Jim got some films roles in popular films like The DIrty Dozen and I’m Gonna Git You Sucka. I’m Gonna Git You Sucka was a popular comedy in the 80s that gave viewers a startical comedic look on black exploitation films. Fans of Brown were happy to see him do role in a comedic role. When an actor does well in a comedy, it usually means that they’ll have a good acting range.

Early life

Jim Brown was born the son of a professional boxer Swinton Brown and homemaker Theresa. Jim attended Manhasset Secondary school. Apart from football, he held exceptional records in other sports such as basketball, lacrosse, track and baseball during his high school years.

Jim attended Syracuse University in 1954. During his junior years, he rushed for a total of 666 yards. He went on to set many school records. To this day he holds the record for highest rush average in a season and the most rushing touchdowns in a single game which was six. Brown ended his college football career with 132 rushing yards, 3 touchdowns and 3 extra points in his last game before he made the move to the NFL.

During his college years, Jim continued his successful story as a multi-sport athlete just like he did in high school. He was the second leading scorer for his basketball team. He was inducted to the college hall of fame for his contributions to their sports programs.

NFL career

Jim Brown was selected in the first round of the 1957 National Football League Draft by the Cleveland Browns. In only a short span of 9 years, Brown set the record for most career rushing, total touchdowns, all-purpose yards and rushing touchdowns. He was the first player ever to gain 100 rushing touchdowns in NFL history. During his career, Jim Brown’s team won the NFL championship in 1964 and were close to winning in 1957 and 1965. Jim Brown ran for 1,863 rushing in the 1963 season, a record that remains as a franchise record for the Cleveland Browns.

Jim Brown’s amazing career is what every American football player dreams of. After playing for nine great seasons, brown announced his shocking retirement in July 1966. At the time he was only 30 years old and considered to still be in his athletic prime.

Acting career

After announcing his retirement from the football world, Brown embarked on a journey to pursue his acting career. Many expected that he would eventually return to the game of football but Brown kept his word in retirement. He never played football again but he went on to star in more than 30 movies.

Personal life

Even though Jim Brown has had good fortune in his football and acting careers, his personal life is tainted with accusations of assault. In 1968, Jim was accused of throwing his girlfriend from a second story balcony. He was convicted for smashing his wife’s car in 1999. He was sentenced to six months in jail for not attending counselling in 2002. Unfortunately Jim never seemed to learn his lesson throughout the years. The reported acts of violence were several years apart meaning Jim never managed to get his anger under control.

Jim married his first wife Sue Jones in 1958. The couple have three children Kim, Kevin and James Jr. They divorced in 1972. Jim also had children from other marriages including <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shellee">Shellee</a> from Brenda Ayres, Kimberly from Kim Jones and Karen Brown Ward.

In 1988, Jim Brown started Amer-I-Can Program to help young gang members to achieve safe and better future.

Jim brown has an estimated net worth of $50 million. He earned most of his net worth from his acting career because his football career came at a time when the money wasn’t as high as it is in the modern era.
