Joe Scarborough is an American television host, attorney, and former U.S. Representative. He was born on April 9, 1963, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Mary Joanna and George Francis Scarborough. During his childhood, his family relocated, and he was raised primarily in Pensacola, Florida. Scarborough graduated from Pensacola Catholic High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Alabama in 1985. In 1990, he completed his Juris Doctor degree at the University of Florida College of Law.
Outside of academics, Scarborough pursued music. During his university years, he was active in a band called Dixon Mills, with whom he recorded the album Calling on Robert E. Lee.
Scarborough was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1991 and began practicing law in Pensacola. One of the most high-profile cases of his legal career came in 1993, when he initially represented Michael F. Griffin, who was charged with the murder of Dr. David Gunn. Scarborough later withdrew from the case, citing conflicts of interest.
That same year, Scarborough also gained local attention for leading opposition to a proposed 65 percent property tax increase in Pensacola, positioning himself as a fiscal conservative and advocate for taxpayers’ rights.
In 1994, Scarborough successfully ran for Congress, winning the Republican primary and then general election for Florida’s 1st congressional district. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2001. While in office, he was known for his conservative positions and received several recognitions, including the "Friend of the Taxpayer Award" from Americans for Tax Reform.
During his time in Congress, Scarborough served on the Judiciary, Armed Services, and Education Committees and built a reputation for supporting limited government and budgetary restraint.
After leaving Congress in 2001, Scarborough transitioned to media. He joined MSNBC and eventually became the co-host of the morning news and talk show Morning Joe. The show, which premiered in 2007, has since become one of MSNBC’s flagship programs, known for its political interviews, analysis, and dynamic co-hosting duo.
Joe Scarborough married Melanie Hinton in 1986. The couple had two sons before divorcing in 1999. He later married Mika Brzezinski, his Morning Joe co-host, in 2018. The pair continue to live and work in New York City, where they remain prominent figures in political broadcasting.
Joe Scarborough continues to co-host Morning Joe on MSNBC, alongside Mika Brzezinski. The program remains a significant platform for political discussion and commentary in the United States. In addition to his television work, Scarborough is also a published author, having written several books on politics and American culture.
