Juanita gave her debut in the year 1982, where she worked as a cadet journalist in The Courier Mail. She served there as a columnist and as well as a writer there. Later in the year 1990, Juanita became a part of TVQ – 10 Brisbane, where she served as a reporter and as well as a presenter there. Soon in short, she made her national presenter by teaming up with Ten Eyewitness News which is a weekend edition that took place in the year 1993. Later Phillips moved her line of work to CNN International which is also in London, where she served as the co-host on CNN Today prior turning back to Australia as a weekend host of ABC News at South Wales. Later in the year 2003, Juanita was appointed as the co-host of ABC News NSW sharing the screens with Tony Eastley and further she appeared as the sole presenter of the news bulletin.
On 30 November 2007, Phillips suffered an on-air coughing fit while presenting ABC News NSW, forcing the ABC to switch to a simulcast of the Victoria state bulletin from its Melbourne station until her coughing fit subsided. Also during 2007, Phillips wrote a number of articles for The Bulletin including an article on animal rights activist Lyn White that caused some controversy. In her 2010 book, A Pressure Cooker Saved My Life, she describes the episode as a result of a stress-induced laryngeal spasm. She has worked very hard to be where she is today. She has ironic blonde hair and her styling is very decent as well. Her assets are her confidence and her amazing presentation skills. Phillips met Mario Milostic, an Australian graphic designer in 2002, at a cafe. Six weeks later, Milostic proposed to her and they got married. The couples were blessed with a boy kid in the year 2003 and they named him Marcus and in the year 2006, they were blessed with a girl kid and named her Mischa. Later in the year 2009, Juanita took a break from her ABC career for taking care of her kids while her partner Milostic moved for bowel cancer rehabilitation. This pair got separated in the year 2010. Phillips, who had her first child at 40, wrote: "Yes, it is possible to have it all - just not all at the same time. If you try to have it all at the same time, you'll pay a high price. Whether you think it's worth the price - well, that's your decision alone." She has written several articles for The Bulletin, one of which is an article on Lyn White, an animal rights activist.
During the year 2012, Juanita started a relationship with Greg Combet, who is a Federal Government Minister. Philips, a single mom started seeing Greg Combet who is twice divorced, and is Federal Government Minister for Climate Change roughly a couple of years ago in 2012. Supposedly Greg who was single and lonely then, acted on a dare, and sent a mail to Philips inviting her out for dinner. Though she wasn't looking for a relationship at nearly 50, Philips now thinks the couple will grow old together! Combet and Philips traveled together for a climate change conference in Europe on a first-class government funded overseas trip, creating a controversy.
The day Combet was facing an inquiry into government corruption; Philips was not allowed to read the ABC News bulletin to avoid conflict of interest. Combet has mentioned in an interview, how difficult it is for a federal MP to maintain a meaningful person relationship while living the life of a federal MP.
