Justin Forsett is a former professional NFL running back, best known for his tenure with the Baltimore Ravens. Over the course of his career, he also played for the Seattle Seahawks, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, and Jacksonville Jaguars. Forsett earned recognition for his agility, persistence, and on-field intelligence. At the peak of his career, he signed a $9 million contract with the Ravens, contributing significantly to the team's offensive performance.
Born on October 14, 1985, in Lakeland, Florida, Justin Forsett is the son of Rodney Forsett, a minister and coach. He attended Grace Preparatory Academy in Arlington, Texas, where he excelled in football, basketball, and track and field. As a standout athlete, he set multiple school records and was particularly dominant in football.
In his final two years at Grace, Forsett rushed for nearly 5,000 yards and scored over 60 touchdowns, leading his team deep into the playoffs. His performances earned him a reputation as one of the top high school running backs in the state. In track and field, he also posted remarkable times that reflected his speed and athleticism on the football field.
Despite his high school success, Forsett was overlooked by programs such as Notre Dame and the University of Texas due to concerns about his height. He ultimately accepted a scholarship offer from the University of California, Berkeley. During his first three years at Cal, Forsett primarily served as a backup running back but still managed to earn meaningful playing time.
He made a strong impression early on, notably recording a 34-yard run and a touchdown in a win over Air Force. As a sophomore, he moved up to second on the depth chart and stepped up when starter Marshawn Lynch was injured, amassing 235 rushing yards in a single game—then the fourth-highest single-game rushing total in school history. In his senior season, Forsett reached career highs with 1,546 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. He capped off his college career with a strong showing in the 2007 Armed Forces Bowl, scoring two touchdowns and rushing for 140 yards to lead Cal to victory.
Forsett was selected in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Though he showed promise during the preseason—scoring a touchdown against the Chicago Bears—he was waived shortly before the regular season began. He was briefly claimed by the Indianapolis Colts before returning to the Seahawks, initially as a member of their practice squad.
Forsett scored his first regular-season touchdown with Seattle on a long run against the Arizona Cardinals and compiled 523 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the 2010 season. Following the expiration of his contract in 2011, he joined the Houston Texans in 2012. That season, he delivered a highlight-worthy 81-yard touchdown against the Detroit Lions. In 2013, Forsett signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars but was sidelined for most of the season due to a foot injury.
Forsett revived his career in 2014 after signing a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens. He quickly became a key player, rushing for 1,266 yards and eight touchdowns that season. His standout performance included a 52-yard run against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, helping the Ravens secure a dominant 48–17 victory. His contributions earned him a three-year, $9 million contract extension with the Ravens in 2015. Unfortunately, Forsett's season was cut short that year due to a broken arm. He was subsequently placed on injured reserve.
Outside of football, Justin Forsett enjoys photography and video gaming. During his high school years, he earned the nickname “The Truth” for his authentic style and undeniable talent. He cites Hall of Fame defensive end Reggie White as one of his greatest inspirations.
Forsett is married to Angela Forsett, and the couple has two children: a son named Zion and a daughter named Judah. Known for his strong personal values and leadership both on and off the field, Forsett remains a respected figure in the football community.
