Biography:
Kentonotis Alvin Foree, professionally known as Ken Foree, is an American actor born on February 29, 1948, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He pursued his higher education at Loyola University and later took acting classes at Michael Shulman’s Gallery. To support himself during his early years in New York City, Foree worked as an assistant manager at a restaurant in Greenwich Village. He currently resides in Los Angeles.
Ken Foree is married to Sheryl Rockmore, and together they have a son named Kenan, born in 1978. Following Kenan’s birth, Foree chose to reduce his acting workload to dedicate more time to his family. This led to guest roles on television series and appearances in TV movies, allowing for a better balance between family and career.
Foree began his acting career in theater before transitioning to film and television. He made his film debut in "The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings" and soon became known for portraying strong, authoritative characters in both films and television.
His breakout role came as SWAT officer Peter Washington in George A. Romero’s 1978 horror classic "Dawn of the Dead," a performance that earned him lasting recognition in the horror genre. Foree went on to play notable roles such as Buford "Bubba" Brownlee in "From Beyond," Benny in "Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III," and Big Joe Grizzly in Rob Zombie’s 2007 remake of "Halloween."
He also portrayed stern authority figures in films like "The Dentist," "Sleepstalker," "True Blood," and "Terror Squad."
Ken Foree gained widespread popularity for his role as Roger Rockmore, the father of Kenan, on the hit Nickelodeon sitcom "Kenan & Kel." The series, created for Kenan Thompson and his comedic partner Kel Mitchell, became one of the network’s most popular shows during its run from 1996 to 2000. While it did not surpass "SpongeBob SquarePants" in ratings, “Kenan & Kel” earned a dedicated fan base and remains a memorable 1990s staple. Foree’s performance brought warmth and relatability to the series, showcasing a gentler side of his acting capabilities.
Although "Dawn of the Dead" did not initially lead to overnight stardom, Foree later realized the film's significant impact on horror enthusiasts. Over the years, his involvement in horror films earned him a strong following among genre fans. He regularly participated in conventions and film festivals, where he connected with admirers of his work.
Foree was honored with his own fan event in the United Kingdom known as "The Foree Festival." While he no longer attends many conventions each year, he expresses genuine appreciation for the people he meets and considers himself fortunate to have garnered such lasting admiration.
