Kevin Clifton, born on October 13, 1982, in Waltham, United Kingdom, is an accomplished English professional dancer and choreographer. He began training in ballroom and Latin dance at a young age under the guidance of his parents, Keith and Judy Clifton, both former World Champion dancers. Raised in a family deeply involved in the world of dance, Kevin developed his passion and skills early on.
Clifton initially competed with his sister, Joanne Clifton, participating in international dance competitions during their youth. Following their decision to pursue individual paths, Kevin chose to specialize in Latin dance, focusing on refining his craft outside of a sibling rivalry.
Kevin Clifton rose rapidly in the dance world, earning recognition as a Youth World Number 1 and becoming a four-time British Latin Champion. Over the years, he added multiple prestigious titles to his name, winning International Open competitions in countries including Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Japan, France, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, and Belgium. At the time of his retirement from competitive dancing in 2007, he was ranked 7th in the world, marking the conclusion of a highly successful competitive career.
Following his retirement from competition, Clifton transitioned into musical theatre. In 2010, he made his stage debut in "Dirty Dancing The Musical" at London’s Aldwych Theatre. During this period, he also collaborated with Charlie Bruce, the winner of the first season of the BBC One dance talent show "So You Think You Can Dance."
In 2013, Kevin Clifton joined the popular BBC dance competition series "Strictly Come Dancing" for its 11th season. He partnered with television personality Susanna Reid, and the duo advanced to the finals, further cementing his status as a prominent figure in the British dance scene.
That same year, Clifton also took part in the "Strictly Come Dancing Pro Challenge," where he earned a Guinness World Record for the most dance steps in 30 seconds by performing 24 "Drunken Sailor" steps, a recognized ballroom move. His participation in "Strictly Come Dancing" significantly expanded his fan base and made him a staple in the UK's entertainment industry.
