Kirstin Taylor "Kirstie" Maldonado was born on May 16, 1992, in Fort Worth, Texas, USA, to a Spanish-Italian mother and a Mexican father. Raised by her single mother in Fort Worth, Kirstin was introduced to music at an early age. At just eight years old, she started taking voice lessons and participated in a local community theater production, an experience she described as the moment she fell in love with performing.
Throughout high school, Kirstin was deeply involved in music. She participated in all school choir programs and was a member of the Texas All-State Choir for three consecutive years. A dedicated performer, she was also a four-year member and dance captain of her school’s show choir. During this time, she frequently performed at venues around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, including Casa Mañana and Bass Performance Hall. She consistently expressed a desire to perform on Broadway.
Kirstin attended Martin High School in Arlington, Texas, where she met future Pentatonix members Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying. The trio began performing together while still in school. After graduating, Kirstin went on to study Musical Theater at the University of Oklahoma on a full-ride scholarship, awarded in part due to her recognition as a National Hispanic Scholar. However, she left college before graduating to pursue a professional music career full-time.
In 2011, Kirstin, along with long-time friends Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying, as well as Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola, formed the a cappella group Pentatonix. The group gained national attention after winning the third season of NBC's “The Sing-Off.” Their modern, harmonically rich arrangements and engaging performances helped them build a global fan base.
After their win, Kirstin relocated to Los Angeles with the group. Over the next several years, Pentatonix experienced tremendous success, including two Grammy Awards. The group released two extended plays—PTX Vol. 1 and PTXmas—both of which debuted on Billboard’s Top 200 chart and collectively sold over 125,000 copies. Kirstin contributed not only as a vocalist but also played a key role in the group’s choreography and stage production efforts.
Outside of Pentatonix, Kirstin has explored her own creative interests, including acting and solo music projects. In May 2016, she appeared alongside Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying in an episode of the television drama Bones. She is recognized as a multi-platinum recording artist and has performed at various concerts and charity galas alongside renowned musicians and composers.
Although Kirstin modestly describes herself as “not the most active person,” her commitment to creating original music, participating in daily choreography rehearsals, and preparing for rigorous tours significantly contributes to the band’s enduring success.
In her personal time, Kirstin takes online classes and remains committed to eventually completing her college degree. She became engaged to singer and entrepreneur Jeremy Michael Lewis on May 29, 2016. The couple first met in 2013 during the filming of the fourth season of “The Sing-Off,” although Lewis was not a contestant on the show. He is the founder of the company Platobrand.
Together, Kirstin and Jeremy released a music video titled Disney Love Medley, which was published on her YouTube channel. As of recent estimates, Kirstin Maldonado’s net worth is approximately $4 million.
