Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Kirstin Taylor "Kirstie" Maldonado was born on May 16, 1992, in Fort Worth, Texas, USA, to a Spanish-Italian mother and a Mexican father. Raised by her single mother in Fort Worth, Kirstin was introduced to music at an early age. At just eight years old, she started taking voice lessons and participated in a local community theater production, an experience she described as the moment she fell in love with performing.

Throughout high school, Kirstin was deeply involved in music. She participated in all school choir programs and was a member of the Texas All-State Choir for three consecutive years. A dedicated performer, she was also a four-year member and dance captain of her school’s show choir. During this time, she frequently performed at venues around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, including Casa Mañana and Bass Performance Hall. She consistently expressed a desire to perform on Broadway.

Education and Early Collaborations

Kirstin attended Martin High School in Arlington, Texas, where she met future Pentatonix members Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying. The trio began performing together while still in school. After graduating, Kirstin went on to study Musical Theater at the University of Oklahoma on a full-ride scholarship, awarded in part due to her recognition as a National Hispanic Scholar. However, she left college before graduating to pursue a professional music career full-time.
