Lisa Salters was born in King of Prussia located in Pennsylvania in March 6, 1966. She studied at the Pennsylvania State University and received her Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism in the year 1988. While in college, she did the role of lookout for the women’s basketball team. She is the cousin of Tony Dorsett, the running back of Dallas Cowboys and winner of Heisman Trophy. She has recently adopted a son, Samuel.
Profession
Salters began her career in broadcast journalism when she started working for WBAL-TV as the general assignment reporter. She then shifted to ABC News where she worked from 1995-2000. She was based in Los Angeles and was the first correspondent in the West Coast for the affiliate news service of ABC, News One. In 2000, she moved to ESPN where she was the general assignment reporter and is at present the sideline reporter on Monday Night Football and lead reporter of NBA on ABC for ESPN.
Assignments
Salters has done many reports several of which were featured frequently in the series, ‘Outside the Lines’ that has won many awards. She has also done an in-depth coverage of the trial of Rae Carruth, the wide receiver of Carolina Panthers. She has reported on the FIFA Cup 2002 from South Korea and Japan, and the 2004 Athens Olympic Games in Greece. She also covered the Winter Olympic Games held in Torino, Italy in the year 2006. While working at WBAL-TV which is an NBC affiliate, she covered a variety of news stories including the critical situation in Somalia and Rwanda. Other assignments she has covered include the murder of Matthew Shepard, TWA Flight 800 crash, and the O.J. Simpson trials both criminal and civil.
Lisa Salters was nominated for the Sports Emmy Award for her story ‘Ray of Hope’ in the year 2008. She has also won the Gracie Award from the Association of Women in Radio and Television in the year 2009 for the best feature. She has also done a powerful feature on the U17 national women’s soccer team from Haiti in 2010. In the year 2012, she returned to Rwanda to teach journalism to young girls as part of The Girl Effect initiative.
