Lloyd Robertson is presently the co-anchor working at CTV Network and he was born in the year 1934, 19th January. He is a veteran anchor who has been co-anchoring the award-winning W5 series. Formally, he worked as the senior editor and as well as a senior anchor at CTV’S national newscast airing everyday evening. Until his retirement in the year 2011 September, he appeared in the evening newscast called CTV News with Lloyd Robertson.
Personal Life
Robertson was born and raised in Stratford in Ontario. His parents were Lilly Frances and Mr. George Henderson. Robertson’s father married twice in his life, where he had 8 children with his 1st wife and after she deceased he got married to another woman and had 2 children namely Gordon and Lloyd. Among all children, Lloyd was the little one. His father was employed at the Canadian Pacific Railway and his mom was a homemaker. Roberts’s family has a mixed origin where his dad has Scottish background and his mom was an England immigrant.
His childhood wasn’t so smooth like everyone elses. Roberts’s mom suffered from mental illness and psychological disorders and this ended up in his mother undergoing a procedure known as a prefrontal lobotomy. Robertson’s father also suffered out of cancer disease and he died when Lloyd was 21. When Robertson was little, he was most likely cared for by his siblings, particularly Irvin and Ethel the twin siblings took care of him much better.
Career
Robertson was very fond of becoming a journalist right from his little age when he was 12. He always enjoyed watching the marching walk of the soldiers and he enjoys listening to the commentaries from the CJCS. In his career, Robertson has captured and brought-forth plenty of events which were breathe-taking and breaking too. He covered the Expo 67 at Montreal, Moon landing at 1969, Terry Fox’s Marathon, Olympic Games, Quebec Referendum in the year 1980 and 1995, the terrorist attack on September 11th, power outage crisis and many more.
During the year 1956, Lloyd applied to service at CBWT at Winnipeg. This was the first TV job ever. Till the year 1956, 25th December Robertson worked in local channels. Staying 4 years at Winnipeg, Lloyd had an audition at CBOT in Ottawa. Later he migrated to Toronto after 2 years time and served as an anchor for CBC Weekend program during 1960’s and he worked as an anchor for The National during 1970 – 76 prior becoming a member of CTV in the month of October the same year. Robertson mainly left CBC channel due to hindrance of union regulations amidst the news hosts and the script writers taking the editorial decisions.
In the year 1976 – 1984, Lloyd co-hosted the CTV National News sharing the screen with Harvey Kirck. After the retirement of Kirck in the year 1984, Robertson joined as the senior news host for CTV. During the year 2004, Lloyd worked as one of the co-anchor at CTV’s Current Affairs W5. In the year 2011, September 1st when Robert was 41 years after hosting CBC and CTV, he turned out from CTV National News.
Lloyd has out lasted every other news anchor in history. Everyone from Harvey Kirck, the late great Walter Cronkite, Tom Brokaw, Dan Rather, Peter Jennings, and Bob Schieffer. By doing so, he became the longest working network news anchor in in television history. He was 77 years old when he finally decided to call it quits and retire from his news anchoring position. He also holds the record for being the oldest TV news anchor in Canada, as well as the oldest TV news anchor in network television period. That is truly an amazing career if anyone should say so.

On top of all this, he has won quite a few awards for his top notch work in journalism. In 1998, Robertson won the Canada's Favorite News Anchor award issued by TV Times Readers Choice Awards. He also won the same award again in 1999. In 1998 he also won Officer of the Order of Canada. The Gemini Award for Best Host, Anchor, or Interviewer was given to Robertson in 1992, 1994, and 1997. The Scottish Studies Society also granted Robertson the Scot of the Year award in 1995. The Toronto Star Reader's Voice Award for Favorite TV Anchor was given to Robertson in 1994

As of March 28th, 2018, Lloyd Robertson was involved in a multi car crash in Toronto, Canada on one of the busiest roads. The incident happened when Robertson was driving South on Don Valley Parkway, when suddenly the rear left corner of his SUV was struck by another vehicle. This accident caused Robertsons car to spin out of control and hit a guardrail.
Robertson was interviewed about the accident by CTVNEWS. During this interview Robertson was quoted as saying: “I was in the middle lane. I headed off to the left lane and then into the median,” Robertson said. “This [front end of his SUV] crashed the median, spun me out to the right. I headed around to the right, hit a van, knocked the van over, and then I continued on for a bit and came to a stop.”
Describing his relief that he did not suffer any major injuries during the accident, Robertson says: “I was still in one piece. I knew that. I got out of the car and I was able to walk away,” Robertson said. “It’s a pretty bad accident as accidents go and of accidents I’ve covered over the years myself.”
Luckily Robertson and the drivers of the other vehicles involved were able to walk away from the incident relatively unscathed, as only minor injuries were reported. The other driver of the car that struck Robertsons SUV was charged with careless driving.
