Michael B. Jordan biography
Michael B. Jordan is an American actor known for his dynamic roles in both television and film. He was born on February 9, 1987, in Santa Ana, California. His family later moved to Newark, New Jersey, where he was raised. His mother, Donna Jordan, is an artist and worked as a high school guidance counselor at Newark Arts High School, which Jordan attended.
Before venturing into acting, Jordan began his career as a child model, working for various brands including Modell’s Sporting Goods and Toys “R” Us. His early exposure to the entertainment industry laid the foundation for his transition into acting.
Jordan’s acting career started with small roles on television shows such as Cosby and The Sopranos. He gained greater recognition with his performance as Wallace on the critically acclaimed HBO series The Wire, followed by his role as Vince Howard in the NBC series Friday Night Lights.
He received widespread critical acclaim for his portrayal of Oscar Grant in the 2013 film Fruitvale Station, directed by Ryan Coogler. The film depicted the real-life story of a young man fatally shot by a transit police officer in Oakland, California. Jordan’s powerful and emotional performance further established him as a talented and socially conscious actor.
Continuing his collaboration with director Ryan Coogler, Jordan starred as Adonis Creed in the 2015 film Creed, a spin-off and continuation of the Rocky film franchise. To realistically portray a professional boxer, he underwent a full year of rigorous physical training and performed his own boxing scenes without using body doubles. Jordan has noted the physical toll of these scenes, including suffering real bruises during filming.
Jordan reprised his role as Adonis in Creed II in 2018. The film was a commercial success, earning over $35 million during its opening weekend—setting a record for the highest-grossing debut of a live-action film over Thanksgiving weekend at that time.
In addition to the Creed films, Jordan gained international fame for his role as Erik Killmonger in Marvel’s Black Panther (2018), another collaboration with Coogler. His portrayal of the complex villain received praise for adding emotional depth to the role and further solidified Jordan's status in Hollywood.
Jordan was cast in the lead role of the action thriller Without Remorse, based on the Tom Clancy novel of the same name. Although initially set for production under Paramount Pictures, the film's release was later acquired by Amazon Studios and premiered in 2021, with Jordan playing the character John Clark.
