Mika Emilie Leonia Brzezinski popularly known as Mika Brzezinski was born on May 2, 1967 in New York City. A well-known American television personality, best-selling author, and a top-rated journalist, Mika is co-host of MSNBC's popular morning show Morning Joe, which she hosts with Joe Scarborough.
A TV news veteran, Brzezinski is the daughter of former president Jimmy Carter's national security Mr. Zbigniew Brzezinski who is also a counselor at the Center for Strategic and International Studies and a professor at the Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at the Johns Hopkins University, in Washington. Her mother is a sculptor. She has a brother Mark Brzezinski, a diplomat serving from 2011 to 2015 as US ambassador to Sweden.
Mika Brzezinski was a precocious child from the beginning. Her high school years were spent in the renowned The Madeira School located in McLean, Virginia. A hardworking and sincere student with strongly focused career aims, she graduated with a degree in English from Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, in 1989 after getting herself transferred from Georgetown University as a junior. She took this decision as she felt that her new Alma Mater was more suited to education in her chosen field of study. Her education in quality educational institutes imbibed in her the importance of being the best to survive in the cutthroat world of journalism. She was made to believe that real achievers stay true to their goals.
Mika Brzezinski, as mentioned above, graduated in 1989 and started her career in 1990 as a journalist at American Broadcasting Company (ABC's) World News 'This Morning' where she worked as assistance. An astute observer of news and events around her, Mika moved a year later to Hartford, Connecticut, working for Fox-affiliated WTIC-TV/WTIC-DT. Her passion for hard work, sincerity, and focus helped her quickly scale the ladders, and within a couple of years, she was working as general assignments reporter.
Another turning point in her career came from joining WFSB-TV/WFSB-DT in Hartford in 1992. She moved up rapidly, occupying the coveted position of weekday morning anchor within a short duration of three years. In 1997 she joined CBS News Network to work for the channel's highly rated 'Up to the Minute' News program.
Taking a short break from CBS, Mika joined rival MSNBC and, together with her co-anchors, hosted a highly successful afternoon show, HomePage. The show's crowning glory came in with glowing reviews from Entertainment Weekly, which described the trio of Mika, Gina Gaston, and Ashleigh Banfield as "the Powerpuff Girls of journalism."
There is much more to journalism than what you will cover and present. Returning to CBS News as a correspondent in 2011, Mika proved to the world that real journalism demands courage, integrity, willpower, and professionalism. It also turned out to be a watershed moment in her career as she saw the spotlight firmly trained on her with her courageous and bold reporting of the September 11, 2001 attacks from 'Ground Zero.'

She was on the scene broadcasting live when the South Tower of World Trade Centre came crashing down. Mika's later stints with CBS saw her working in various positions for different segments related to breaking news. She also made occasional contributions to CBS' Sunday Morning' and "60 Minutes".
Mika came back to MSNBC once again on January 26, 2007. Her major break came when she was selected to co-host MSNBC's highly rated and popular morning "Morning Joe" program with Joe Scarborough. Interestingly Mika never fails to point out that her co-host is a Republican, whereas she is a Democrat.
Mika's high confidence level and her preference for news that makes a difference in people's lives have won her an immense fan following. A strong critic of trivial journalism, Mika raked up a storm with her refusal to read the news related to Paris Hilton's discharge from prison in 2007, instead of giving preference to Indiana's Republican Senator Richard Lugar's disagreement with President George Bush over the Iraq war.
Mika Brzezinski married James Patrick Hoffer, a TV News reporter, on October 23, 1993. They had met and fallen in love working at WTIC-TV. Apart from being a highly respected and well-known journalist, Mika also has quite a few bestsellers to her credit. Her memoir 'All Things At Once' published by Weinstein Books was a New York Times bestseller in 2010. The book, a frank description of her career trajectory, describes her journey of professional setbacks, hardships, achievements, and struggles from the beginning of her career.
Her second book Knowing Your Value, the prequel to her new book Grow Your Value, talks about women's equality and career progression opportunities in the workplace.
