Mike Bellotti was married to Colleen for about 25 years. After a long marriage, Mike filed for divorce from his wife. He said that the separation was very amicable and the two would continue living in the same city and share the custody of the kids. He said that the career he is involved in needs a lot of sacrifices.
When Mike divorced his wife in 2003, he gave half of his retirement account to her. She became eligible for 50,000 dollars per year. When he announced that he was planning to end his marriage to his listeners, he said that it was really a big struggle to keep the things together. He said when two people grow apart, it is nobody’s fault. The reason stated was that separation was very essential and that his career needed some degree of sacrifice. He once said that the reason for the separation is that he was worrying a lot about his team, the Beavers.
The separation was smooth until Colleen attacked the columnist who wrote about her case. She visited the columnist with her son, his girlfriend, and a nanny. She was angry about the column written about Mike. The columnist said that it doesn't matter if she does not agree with his columns. He again wrote about the drinking and driving incident of her son. She got very angry and grabbed his suit lapel and kicked him. She was drunk during this incident. Though this incident drew a lot of attention, a few people considered it a publicity stunt.
