American professional baseball center fielder Michael “Mike” Nelson Trout, known as “The Millville Meteor,” was born on August 7, 1991, in Vineland, New Jersey. He is the son of Jeff Trout, a former baseball player at the University of Delaware, and Debbie Trout. Mike grew up in nearby Millville alongside his older siblings, Teal and Tyler.
Trout began playing baseball in Little League as a shortstop and wore the number 2 in honor of his idol, Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees. While attending Millville Senior High School in New Jersey, Trout excelled in both baseball and basketball. He notably threw a no-hitter against Egg Harbor Township High School and finished his high school career with 18 home runs, setting a new school record.
Trout's exceptional combination of speed and power quickly drew attention. He played briefly for East Carolina University before entering the 2009 MLB Draft, where he was regarded as a top prospect due to his athleticism, strong defensive skills in center field, and base-running efficiency.
Trout was selected in the first round of the 2009 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels. He began his professional career with the Arizona Angels in the rookie-level Arizona League, where he impressed with a .362 batting average, .454 on-base percentage, and .526 slugging percentage over 82 games. He hit six home runs, drove in 39 RBIs, and stole 45 bases, earning a spot in the All-Star Futures Game. Baseball America ranked him the third-best prospect in the Angels' organization and 85th overall in baseball.
Trout continued his progress through the minor leagues and was later promoted to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. He made his MLB debut with the Angels in 2011 and quickly established himself as one of baseball’s most dynamic players. Known for his consistent offensive production and elite defense, Trout has earned multiple Silver Slugger Awards over the course of his career.
In 2014, at just 23 years old, Trout won the American League Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award. That same year, he signed a six-year contract with the Angels valued at $144.5 million. He has continued to receive numerous accolades, including the MVP award for the 2014 MLB All-Star Game and recognition as the Best Major League Baseball Player at various sports award ceremonies.
Trout is also the youngest player in MLB history to achieve at least 10 home runs and 10 stolen bases in each of his first three seasons, highlighting his rare combination of power and speed.
Mike Trout is married to Jessica Cox, whom he dated since high school. Jessica is the sister of the late Aaron Cox, a former Angels minor league pitcher and close friend of Trout. The couple shares a strong bond that traces back to their days at Millville High School. Known for maintaining a low public profile, they have been seen enjoying outdoor activities and spending time with their beloved pet horse.
Outside of baseball, Trout has shown interest in business and community involvement, contributing to initiatives in Cumberland County, New Jersey, where he was raised.
Trout expanded his profile into endorsements starting in 2012 when he partnered with BodyArmor SuperDrink. Not only did he appear in advertisements, but he also held an equity stake in the company. The partnership marked the beginning of his long-term involvement with branded campaigns.
In 2013, he was featured in a Subway commercial during Super Bowl XLVII and also became a spokesperson for SuperPretzel. His marketability extended beyond traditional endorsements—he was an advocate for animal welfare campaigns, including promoting free spaying and neutering services for pit bulls.
A major milestone came in 2014 when Nike released the first-ever signature baseball cleat for Trout, making him the first Major League Baseball player to receive a signature shoe from the brand—a testament to his rising stature both on and off the field.
