The hip-hop singer Montell Jordan was born on December 3, 1968 in South Central Los Angeles, where he spent all his childhood. Then he moved to Malibu, California in order to study at the Pepperdine University. During that time, he has been a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and graduated with a degree in communications.
He always loved hip-hop style of music, but his first attempt to create his own songs was only in 1995. With the Def Jam Recordings he released his first album "This Is How We Do It" and a single with the same title. This song changed his life immediately. In one month after the release day, his single "This Is How We Do It" reached #1 position in Billboard Hot 100 and R&B singles chart. This song held this position from 15 April to 27 May 1995 and made Montell Jordana a hip-hop star. People bought the album like hot cakes and sales reached 1 million copies, made it platinum.
This song was popular not only in USA, and abroad. It got #1 position in Canada Dance (RPM), #7 in Australia (ARIA) and #5 in New Zealand (Recorded Music NZ). It spinned up his popularity and he frequently sang this song before NBA games, namely: Chicago Bulls vs Cleveland Cavaliers (Friday May 8, 2015), Golden State Warriors vs Houston Rockets (Friday, May 22, 2015), Indiana Pacers vs Toronto Raptors (during the whole October 28, 2015), Sacramento Kings vs Los Angeles Lakers (Friday October 30, 2015), Philadelphia 76ers vs Chicago Bulls (January 14, 2016).
After the single "This Is How We Do It" followed next album “More…” (1996). It was not as successful as the previous one, reached just #47 on the Billboard 200, but still it received gold certificate from the RIAA. Then he released five more albums during next decade from 1998 to 2008: Let's Ride in 1998, Get It On…Tonite in 1999, Montell Jordan in 2002, Life After Def in 2003 and the last one Let It Rain in 2008.
Apart from his career as a singer, he participated in several films. His first episodic role was in comic science fiction The Nutty Professor (1996). His next part was in musical comedy-drama The Fighting Temptations released in September 2003 where he played Mr. Johnson. The third and the last his film was The List (2015), produced by Scott Pryor, who also was a creator of the plot and played the main role in this film - Jack Stone. Montell played there Brian Mullenax and coped with it pretty well.
In 2010, he left music career and became a worship leader at Victory World Church. He could afford not to work anymore, since his net worth was about five million dollars. As for his private life, he has been married since 1994. His wife is Kristin Hudson, and at this time, they already have four children.
