Paul Murphy is an Irish politician born on April 13, 1983, in Goatstown, a suburb of Dublin, Ireland. He attended St. Kilian's German School in Clonskeagh, where he received a bilingual education. His father, Kieran Murphy, worked as a senior manager at the Irish division of the multinational company Mars. Though Paul Murphy grew up in Dublin, his family's roots trace back to Castlebar, County Mayo.
Murphy began gaining political visibility as an activist with the Socialist Party. In 2008, he appeared in a short film that highlighted his advocacy work, particularly his involvement in protests against healthcare cutbacks at Tallaght Hospital.
In 2011, Murphy was appointed as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the Dublin constituency, serving until 2014. During his tenure, he campaigned on a range of issues including workers’ rights, anti-austerity measures, and social justice.
Following his service in the European Parliament, Murphy won a seat in Dáil Éireann (the lower house of the Irish parliament) during the Dublin South-West by-election in 2014. He has continued to serve as a Teachta Dála (TD) for this constituency since then.
Initially affiliated with the Socialist Party, Murphy later became a part of a broader political movement that eventually rebranded as Solidarity in 2017. He is currently a member of the political alliance known as Solidarity–People Before Profit, which promotes a left-wing, socialist policy platform focused on social equality, economic justice, and environmental sustainability.
Murphy maintains a relatively private personal life. While he is frequently asked about his marital status, there is no public record confirming whether he is married. His public persona primarily focuses on his political activism and work as a legislator rather than personal disclosures.
