Peter Kay is a famous comedian in UK and an actor. He has written, acted and produced many award winning film projects and television. His autobiography: The Sound of Laughter, is among the bestselling books up to now. According to his bio, his countrywide popularity begun when he first won the North West Comedian of the Year award, in 1996. The Sound of Laughter, is among the bestselling books up to now.
Peter Kay was born in Lancashire and attended classes at the St Joseph High school, from where he got his GCSE in art. He worked in many jobs like Bingo hall, Cash and Carry, Netto supermarket and toilet roll factory. He did some courses at the University of Liverpool but dropped out because he got an offer to do HND (High National Diploma) without any condition at the University of Salford. He attended the school media, music with performance and the studies involved the standup course and as you can imagine, he excelled on the field from the very beginning.
Peter has an honest and easy going style which is not found in many comedians. He does not swear while on the stage and most of the time, his mum and aunts are blended with the audience which means that he has to be careful of what he says. While performing, he is full of energy with enthusiasm which makes him seem he’s at the perfect place, the perfect time, doing exactly what he wants to do and what he’s good at doing. At this point it is worth noting that Sia Gibson went to the same University and became famous thanks to Peter. "I was just sick of going to auditions for parts which were three lines. You know, 'That's £1.99 please, love'. I've got a mortgage to pay. I was doing rubbish jobs and it was soul-destroying. There's only so long you can go on," she says.
By the time she quit, it had been over a year since her last audition. "It had just run its course and I was getting on with my life as it was. I wasn't waiting for the phone to ring – it had gone past that." All that changed with an email from Peter, concerning a sitcom about two supermarket workers sharing the drive to work. And the rest is known, more or less.Other awards he has won come from Royal Television Society and Montreux Television Festival. He has featured in many movies the most popular of which is ‘Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit Coronation Street.’

Once, when awarded Kay dedicated his comedy award to Scottish comedian and presenter Billy Connolly. Although popular and nearly widely accepted as part of the top league at his category and profession, Peter also receives some criticism for several reasons, like the fact that he likes to use jokes from other people. However, for many of his fans, the origin of the jokes is not important but how the jokes are being told. Peter Kay is husband to Susan Gargan since 2001 and the two have a beautiful son. They met when Kay was still working at a cinema, while Susan works as a Cashier on ‘Boots of Bolton’. Their marriage took place after 3 years of dating.
When he’s not being an actor and comedian, Peter fancies playing the role of director and writer, two extra roles that when added to his main profession, have all earned him a net worth of 9.5 million. Much like king Midas, it is said that whatever he touches, turns into gold.Feeling like his life was too much to handle, Peter took a break for 7 years before returning to comedy. He sold more than 1 million tickets for his ‘Tour That Didn’t Tour’ tour while his totally renewed and fresh show sold 1 million DVDs.For his other comedies, like ‘Mum Wants a Bungalow’, ‘Phoenix nights’ and ‘Peter Kay Thing’, he sold more than 10 million dollars’ worth of tickets and DVDs. For the record, his ‘Mum wants a Bungalow’ tour, still holds the record as the biggest selling British stand up DVD of all time.
Furthermore, his autobiography, ‘The sound of Laughter’ managed to sell one million copies in the first three months. In other words, this man is used to conquering the top of the UK singles charts.UK’s best known actor started his comedy shows when he was still at the university. While acting and/or performing, he is known to always come up with new things and catchy expressions.
He said that he has to find new materials between breaks and that’s why his breaks take too long. There are some phrases that come back in his comedy like Garlic Bread, and cheesecake among others. While he doesn’t own a Charity organization or a foundation like many other celebrities, he remains an active part of the society and has in fact supported several noble causes from time to time. The charities and foundations he has supported and continues to advocate with every chance he gets are Children in Need (Elton John’s AIDS Foundation) and Comic Relief (a charity coming from the Willow Foundation, a national charity that provides special days for seriously ill 16 to 40 year olds throughout the UK.)
Specializing in observational humor, Peter’s most known jokes consists of the Garlic Bread (which goes like this: “What? Garlic bread? Garlic. Bread? GARLIC? BREAD? Am I hearin' you right? Garlic bread? No, thank you.") and the equally hilarious and known one, the Paying the bill joke. We all know the international sign for asking for the bill. "That little signature in midair," says Kay. And heaven help you if you're on a work's night out. "There's always a gobby one who takes charge because she's got a calculator on her thigh phone" is end.
