Rami Said Malek was born in 1981 in California to Egyptian immigrant parents. He has an identical twin brother named Sami, who is four minutes younger. Malek attended Notre Dame High School in California before earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2003 from the University of Evansville, where he studied acting.
Malek began his acting career with guest roles on television series such as Gilmore Girls, Medium, and Over There. He also contributed uncredited voice work for the popular video game Halo 2. In 2015, Malek began starring as Elliot Alderson in the USA Network series Mr. Robot. His portrayal of a cybersecurity engineer with social anxiety and dissociative identity disorder received widespread critical acclaim, earning him a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2016. The role marked a significant turning point in his career and solidified his reputation as a versatile and compelling performer.
In addition to his television work, Malek provided voice acting and motion capture for the character Josh Washington in the survival horror video game Until Dawn (2015). His involvement in the game showcased his ability to engage with diverse media platforms in the entertainment industry.
In 2010, Malek played Corporal Merriell 'Snafu' Shelton in the Emmy Award-winning HBO miniseries The Pacific. That same year, he portrayed Marcos Al-Zacar, an Egyptian-American character, in the Fox series 24, further expanding his range as an actor.
