Raymond “Ray” Allen Liotta, born Raymond Julian Vicimarli on December 18, 1954, in Newark, New Jersey, is an American actor, voice actor, and producer. He’s been adopted by Mary and Alfred Liotta when he was 6 months old. His adoptive parents worked as an appointed township clerk, the mother, and as an auto-parts store owner, the father. Ray Liotta went to the Union High School, and then he graduated in 1978 from the University of Miami with a degree in Fine Arts. Although he wasn’t very good at academics, he stood out in high school for his performance in soccer and basketball. In his spare time, he helped his father with his business, and spent most of his holidays in Japan, Hawaii, and Europe.
He studied acting with Robert “Buckets” Lowery, and he also performed in many musicals like “Cabaret”, Dames at Sea”, “Oklahoma”, and “Sound of Music”. After finishing his studies, Ray Liotta moved to New York, where he initially worked as a bartender at the Shubert theaters. He found an agent in short time, and he started getting his first roles: from 1978 to 1981 he’s been in the soap opera “Another World”.
Ray Liotta decided that he wanted to try his luck in the movies industries, so he left the role in that soap opera, and he moved to Los Angeles. He started a brilliant career, that saw him playing in the movies "The Lonely Lady" (1983), "Something Wild" (1986, it made him win the award as “Best Support Actor” in 1987), in the short film "Arena Brains" (1987), "Dominick and Eugene" (1988), and in "Field of Dreams" (1989) in the role of "Shoeless" Joe Jackson, the famous baseball player. In 1990 he’s been in the cast of "Goodfellas" in the role of Henry Hill: this is one of his most important roles, and this movie gave him wide popularity.
He’s then been in "Article 99" (1992), in "Unlawful Entry" (1992), in "No Escape" (1994), and, in the same year, in "Corrina, Corrina". Ray Liotta continued acting in the movie "Operation Dumbo Drop" (1995), in "Unforgettable" (1996), in "Turbulence" (1997), and, in the same year, in "Cop Land", where he starred next to Silvester Stallone. In addition to his roles in the movies, Ray Liotta portrayed the singer Frank Sinatra in the TV movie “The Rat Pack” (1998), for which he also received a nomination for the Screen Actors Guild Award. He then continued acting in the movie "Phoenix" (1998), in "Muppets from Space" and "Forever Mine" (1999), in "Pilgrim" and in "A Rumor of Angels" (2000).
He’s been in the cast of “Hannibal", of "Heartbreakers", and of "Blow" (2001), and, in the next year, he played in the movies "Narc", "John Q”, and "Ticker" (2002). Ray Liotta continued his career in the movies "Identity" (2003), in "The Last Shot" and "Control" (2004), in "Revolver" and "Slow Burn" (2005), and in "Even Money", "Take the Lead", "Local Color", "Comeback Season", and "Smokin" Aces" in 2006. In 2007 he’s been in "Wild Hogs", in "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale", in "Battle in Seattle", and in "Bee Movie”. He then acted in "Hero Wanted" and "Powder Blue" (2008), and, in 2009, in "Crossing Over", "Observe and Report", "La Linea", and in "Youth in Revolt". In 2010 he’s been in "Crazy on the Outside, "Date Night", "Snowmen", "Chasing 3000", and in "Charlie St. Cloud".

In 2011 Ray Liotta acted in “The Details", "The Son of No One", "All Things Fall Apart", "Street Kings 2: Motor City", "The River Murders", "Field of Dreams 2: Lockout", and in "The Entitled". In 2012 he’s been in "Wanderlust", "Killing Them Softly", "Breathless", "The Iceman", "The Place Beyond the Pines", "Ticket out", "Yellow", "Bad Karma", and in "Dear Dracula". In 2013 he’s been in "The Devil"s in the Details", "Pawn", and "Suddenly", while in 2014 he’s been in "Better Living Through Chemistry”, "Muppets Most Wanted", "The Identical", "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For", "Revenge of the Green Dragons", "Stretch", and in "Kill the Messenger". In 2015 he’s been in "Blackway" and "Campus Code", while in 2016 he’s been in "Sticky Notes" and "Flock of Dudes". Finally, he acted in 2018 in "Alone" and "Untitled Noah Baumbach Project".
During his long and successful career Ray Liotta has been many times busy in roles for the Television. His most important and recurrent roles have been in “Casablanca” (1983), in “Our Family Honor” (1985), in “Just Shoot Me!” (2001/2002), in “ER” (2004), whose role earned him an Emmy for the “Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series”, in “Smith” (2006/2007), in “Texas Rising” (2015), in “The Making of the Mob” (2015/Present), and in “Shades of Blue (2016/2018).
Ray Liotta gave his voice for the famous video game series of “Grand Theft Auto”, and he received many awards thanks to his work (the G-Phoria Award in 2003 as “Best Voice Performance – Male”, the NAVTGTR Award in 2003 for his “Voice Performance”, and the Spike Video Game Award in 2003 for the “Best Performance by a Human”).
Ray Liotta married Michelle Grace in 1997. They co-starred in the movie for the TV “The Rat Pack”, with Liotta playing in the role of Frank Sinatra, and Grace in the one of Judith Campbell Exner. The couple had a daughter, but they divorced in 2004. After having been in the western “Texas Rising”, Liotta started a passion for horses, and he continued riding them even after the end of the movie. Liotta is also a soccer enthusiast, and he supports the English Premiership football team of the Tottenham Hotspur.
Today Ray Liotta lives in Pacific Palisades, California. He has a Twitter account, but he’s not very active: he has only 750 tweets, and 61k followers. His Facebook page is, likewise, not very active, but he can count on more than 110k people liking his job, and more than 102k following his news.
