Rydel Lynch was born on August 9, 1993, in Littleton, Colorado. During her childhood, she learned to play a variety of instruments, including the keyboard, tambourine, and double shaker, while also developing her vocal skills. Alongside her older brother Riker, she shared a passion for dance, and the two even competed in ballroom dance competitions. Music ran deep in the Lynch family, and in 2009, they decided to form their own pop rock band, R5. The decision to pursue music as a family was largely influenced by Riker’s ambition to become an actor, which ultimately brought the entire family to Los Angeles.
At age eighteen, Riker expressed a desire to move to Los Angeles to advance his acting career. Concerned about the effects of his potential absence on the family, Mark and Stormie Lynch, Riker and Rydel’s parents, decided to relocate the entire family. This move proved beneficial not only professionally for the children but also financially for Mark, whose business gained traction through exposure to the growing fanbase of R5.
To expand their reach, each of the Lynch siblings appeared in various television and film projects. Rydel made her screen debut in 2008 as a choir member in the TV movie Sunday School Musical. In 2009, she played a cheerleader in School Gyrls, and in 2011, she appeared in A Day as Holly's Kids. She also made a brief appearance in the 2012 pilot episode of the series Bunheads.
Riker played a notable recurring role on the musical TV series Glee and gained additional recognition as a finalist in season 20 of Dancing with the Stars. Rocky Lynch, one year younger than Rydel, appeared in the educational NASA film Exploration Space: Explorers Wanted. A self-taught guitarist, Rocky also taught his siblings how to play, contributing significantly to R5’s musical direction.
Ross Lynch, two years younger than Rydel, became a household name on the Disney Channel for his lead role in the series Austin & Ally and his starring roles in Teen Beach Movie and its sequel. The youngest Lynch sibling, Ryland, did not perform vocally with the band but played a crucial role as its manager, overseeing schedules and logistics. Despite his behind-the-scenes role, Ryland became known for his witty rapport with his older siblings.
Ellington Ratliff, the final member of R5, is not a biological Lynch but was invited to join the band after Ross discovered his drumming talent. A close friend of Ross, Ratliff quickly became an integral part of the band.
After several years of performing and building an audience, R5 signed a recording contract with Hollywood Records in 2012. In 2013, they released a four-song EP titled Loud, which set the tone for their upbeat and energetic style. Later that year, they released their debut full-length album, Louder, which featured popular singles and marked their official breakthrough in the pop rock scene.
In 2013, around the time of the album’s release, Rydel began dating her bandmate Ellington Ratliff. Though initially rumored by some to be a publicity move, the pair were in a committed relationship for three years, frequently appearing together in public and during band tours. Their relationship added a personal dimension to the group’s dynamic, making them a favorite among fans of the band.
