Steven Michael Robert Howey, professionally known as Steve Howey, is the son of film and television director Bill Howey. During his early childhood, Steve spent several years living on boats with his parents. Eventually, the family settled in a suburb of Los Angeles, where he completed most of his middle and high school education.
In his final year of high school, Howey relocated to Denver, Colorado, and earned a basketball scholarship that allowed him to attend junior college. However, his interest in sports began to wane during his second year, and he gradually developed a passion for acting. He subsequently joined his father's acting classes, crediting Bill Howey as his first acting coach.
Before finding success in Hollywood, Steve Howey worked as a waiter in a Colorado restaurant during the 1990s. His early acting career began with guest appearances on popular television series. In 1994, he appeared in an episode of ER, followed by a guest role on The Drew Carey Show in 1995.
In 1998, Howey starred in Class, an independent film he also produced. Written and directed by his father, the film was selected for screening at the Denver International Film Festival. He continued to gain experience with a role in the television series Pacific Blue in 1999 and played Troy in Any Day Now in 2001.
Steve Howey's breakout role came in 2001 when he was cast as Van Montgomery in the long-running sitcom Reba. The show was a major hit, and Howey appeared in 126 episodes over its six-season run, establishing him as a well-known television actor.
Following his success on Reba, Howey transitioned into film with roles in several movies. In 2005, he starred as K.C. Carlyle in the action film Supercross. He later appeared as Weatherby in DOA: Dead or Alive (2006) and portrayed Zack in the television series Twins the same year.
In 2009, he had a supporting role in Bride Wars, sharing the screen with Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson. That year also saw him take on various projects including Still Waiting..., CTRL, and Surviving Suburbia. In 2011, he played Marcus in the romantic comedy Something Borrowed.
Throughout his career, Howey has built an extensive list of television credits. Some of the shows in which he has appeared include New Girl, State of Romance, Conception, Losing Control, Psych, In Your Eyes, Stan Helsing, Sons of Anarchy, Jennifer Falls, Wrong Cops, and Workaholics.
Perhaps most notably, he portrayed Kevin Ball on the critically acclaimed Showtime series Shameless, where his comedic timing and dramatic range were widely praised over multiple seasons.
Steve Howey married actress Sarah Shahi on February 7, 2009, in Las Vegas. Shahi is known for her role as Sameen Shaw in the CBS drama Person of Interest. The couple became engaged in June 2007.
They welcomed their first child, a son named William Wolf Howey, on July 8, 2009, via water birth. On March 1, 2015, they had twins—a daughter, Violet Moon, and a son, Knox Blue. Howey occasionally shares pictures of his family on his Instagram account, giving fans a glimpse into his personal life.
As of recent estimates, Steve Howey has a net worth of approximately $2 million, accumulated through his work in television, film, and independent production projects.
