Steven Michael Robert Howey, professionally known as Steve Howey, is the son of film and television director Bill Howey. During his early childhood, Steve spent several years living on boats with his parents. Eventually, the family settled in a suburb of Los Angeles, where he completed most of his middle and high school education.
In his final year of high school, Howey relocated to Denver, Colorado, and earned a basketball scholarship that allowed him to attend junior college. However, his interest in sports began to wane during his second year, and he gradually developed a passion for acting. He subsequently joined his father's acting classes, crediting Bill Howey as his first acting coach.
Before finding success in Hollywood, Steve Howey worked as a waiter in a Colorado restaurant during the 1990s. His early acting career began with guest appearances on popular television series. In 1994, he appeared in an episode of ER, followed by a guest role on The Drew Carey Show in 1995.
In 1998, Howey starred in Class, an independent film he also produced. Written and directed by his father, the film was selected for screening at the Denver International Film Festival. He continued to gain experience with a role in the television series Pacific Blue in 1999 and played Troy in Any Day Now in 2001.
Steve Howey's breakout role came in 2001 when he was cast as Van Montgomery in the long-running sitcom Reba. The show was a major hit, and Howey appeared in 126 episodes over its six-season run, establishing him as a well-known television actor.
