<p>Susan Calman is a Scottish <a href="/biography/susan-calman">comedian</a>, television presenter, lawyer, and writer who was born on November 6, 1974, in Glasgow, United Kingdom. She is the <a href="/biography/susan-calman">daughter</a> of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_Calman">Sir</a> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_Calman">Kenneth Calman</a> who is <a href="/biography/susan-calman">chancellor</a> of the University of Glasgow and a former chief medical officer. Calman attended an independent school called the High School of Glasgow. She earned a Judge Brennan scholarship and studied law at the University of Glasgow. The scholarship also brought her to North Carolina for three months to work with criminals on death row. She spent the next seven years in corporate law but opted to pursue a career in stand-up comedy instead. In 1993, she came out as a lesbian and spoke about growing up gay in Glasgow and the difficulties it entailed. In 2005, Calman reached the semi-finals of the BBC New Comedy Awards.</p>

<p>She would later go on to be a contestant on the Channel 4 sketch show "Blowout" which won a Scottish BAFTA Award. Calman also appeared in the fifteenth season of "Strictly Come Dancing" where she partnered with professional <a href="/biography/kevin-clifton">dancer</a> <a href="/biography/kevin-clifton">Kevin Clifton</a> but the couple was eliminated in week 10. Calman had a civil partnership ceremony with her partner who is also a lawyer in 2012 and were officially married in 2016.</p>
