Sydney Rae Leroux Dwyer, born on May 7, 1990, in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, is a Canadian-born professional soccer player who later represented the United States in international competition. She is the daughter of Sandi Leroux, a Canadian, and Ray Chadwick, a former American baseball player.
Leroux attended Johnston Heights Secondary School in Surrey, where she excelled in multiple sports. She was known as the leading scorer on the school's soccer team and also participated in track and field, winning the Provincial Championship in the 4x100 meters relay. She further honed her soccer skills playing three seasons with the Coquitlam City Wild, helping the club qualify for the Provincial Cup Championships in 2003, 2004, and 2005.
Fueling her ambition to play for the United States women's national soccer team, Leroux moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, at the age of 15. There, she attended Horizon High School for her junior and senior years. Following graduation, she played collegiate soccer at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) from 2008 to 2011, where she established herself as a standout player in NCAA Division I women’s soccer.
In 2012, Leroux made history as the youngest member of the United States women’s national soccer team at the London Summer Olympics. She played a key role in the team’s success, notably contributing to the 2–0 victory over New Zealand in the quarterfinals. The U.S. team went on to win the gold medal, solidifying her place in the program's legacy.
Sydney Leroux began dating English-American soccer player Dom Dwyer in 2014. The couple married in a private ceremony in January 2015. In January 2016, Leroux announced that they were expecting their first child. Their son, Cassius Cruz Dwyer, was born on September 10, 2016.
