Tamara Nora Holder was born in La Junta, located in southeastern Colorado, where her family managed an onion farm. She went on to attend the University of Arizona, where she completed her undergraduate studies.
Holder is a criminal defense attorney licensed in Illinois and has practiced law primarily in Chicago. She is recognized for her work on civil rights issues and has also served as a public advocacy attorney. Holder previously worked as an advisor to civil rights activist Rev. Jesse Jackson, and she has worked on clemency and pardon requests throughout her legal career.
