Tawny Kitaen, born Julie Kitaen on August 5, 1961, in San Diego, California, was an American actress and media personality. She was the daughter of Linda Nee Taylor, a former beauty pageant contestant, and Terry Kitaen, who worked in a neon sign company. She adopted the nickname "Tawny" at the age of 12 and would be professionally known by that name throughout her career.
Kitaen began her film career in 1983 with a minor role in the television movie Malibu. The following year, she appeared in the French-American fantasy and adventure film The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik-Yak. She garnered wider recognition later that year for her appearance in the comedy film Bachelor Party (1984), co-starring Tom Hanks, in which she played the role of Hanks’s on-screen bride.
In 1986, Kitaen took a leading role in the supernatural horror film Witchboard, further solidifying her position as a popular actress during the 1980s.
Although known for her acting, Tawny Kitaen became a pop culture icon in the late 1980s through her appearances in several music videos for the rock band Whitesnake. Her most memorable performance was in the 1987 music video for "Here I Go Again," where she famously danced on the hoods of two Jaguar cars. These high-profile video appearances contributed significantly to her public image and established her as a prominent figure in the glam metal music scene.
Kitaen expanded her career into television during the 1990s. Contrary to some reports, she did not make her TV debut in Seinfeld; however, she did guest-star in a 1991 episode of the sitcom. Throughout the decade, she appeared in various TV programs, including guest spots on shows like The New WKRP in Cincinnati and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.
In her personal life, Tawny Kitaen was briefly married to David Coverdale, lead singer of the band Whitesnake. The couple tied the knot in 1989 but divorced in 1991. In 1997, she married Major League Baseball pitcher Chuck Finley. The couple had two daughters before divorcing in 2002.
Tawny Kitaen is remembered not only for her film and television work but also for her lasting influence on 1980s popular culture through music videos and tabloid prominence. Her career spanned acting, modeling, and television appearances, and she became a symbol of the era’s entertainment scene.
