Thora Birch is an American actress and producer who was born on March 11, 1982, in Los Angeles, California, in the United States. She was born to her parents Jack Birch and Carol Conners who also served as her business managers. Both her mother and father were former actors and helped manage her career when she was a child. Birch made her film debut in the 1988 film "Purple People Eater". Her performance in the film won her a Young Artist Award for "Best Young Actress Under Nine Years of Age". She went on to appear in films like "All I Want for Christmas", "Patriot Games", "Hocus Pocus", "Monkey Trouble" and more. Her big break came in 1999 when she landed the role of Jane Burnham in the film "American Beauty" with actor Christian Bale.
Birch earned a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actress in "American Beauty". She went on to appear in the cult hit "Ghost World" in 2001 which earned her a nomination for the Golden Globe for Best Actress. Birch played the title role in the film "Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story" which earned her an Emmy Award Nomination. She took a hiatus from acting in 2012 but returned in 2016.
