Trecina Evette "Tina" Campbell, born Trecina Evette Atkins in May 1974, is an American urban contemporary gospel and contemporary R&B recording artist. She was born in Inglewood, California, and raised in a Christian household. Her father, Eddie Aaron Atkins, was a minister and pastor, and her mother, Andrea “Honey” Atkins, played a significant role in raising their large family.
Tina had several siblings. She tragically lost her elder brother at a young age due to multiple health complications, including a congenital heart defect, spinal meningitis, and Down syndrome. Her surviving brother, Darrell Antoine Atkins, currently resides in Arizona. She has two older sisters—Erica Monique Atkins and Meliea Dionne Atkins—and four younger sisters: Delisa Marie "Lisa" Atkins, Thomasina Andrea Atkins, Alana Ellesse Atkins, and Shanta Nena Lavea Atkins.
Tina Campbell rose to prominence in 1998 when she and her older sister, Erica Campbell, formed the urban contemporary gospel duo Mary Mary. The pair helped redefine the genre by blending gospel with elements of soul music, hip hop, jazz, and funk. Their debut single, “Shackles (Praise You),” is widely regarded as a trailblazing track in urban contemporary gospel music and contributed to the group's widespread acclaim.
The name "Mary Mary" was inspired by two biblical figures: Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Mary Magdalene. The duo's bold fusion of gospel themes with secular music styles attracted a wide fan base and played a key role in expanding the popularity of the genre throughout the 2000s, alongside other influential artists like Kirk Franklin.
Following years of success with Mary Mary, Tina Campbell launched her solo career in 2014. Her debut solo album, It’s Personal, was released under Gee Tree Creative and marked a strong entrance on multiple Billboard charts. The album peaked at number 90 on the Billboard 200, reached number one on the Top Gospel Albums chart, and secured the number 10 spot on the Independent Albums chart.
Tina Campbell is married to Teddy Campbell, a professional drummer best known for his work on the television show American Idol. They reside in Los Angeles, California, and have five children: Santana, Glendon Theodore, Meelah Jane, Laiah Simone, and Cierra. Cierra is Tina’s daughter from a previous relationship. Interestingly, both Tina and her sister Erica married men with the last name Campbell, though the two husbands are not related.
Over the years, Tina Campbell has built a successful career as a gospel artist. Her contributions to Mary Mary and her solo work have earned her a substantial income, with her estimated net worth exceeding $10 million. Renowned for her role in popularizing urban contemporary gospel music, Tina continues to influence the genre with her vocal talent, songwriting, and commitment to faith-based artistry.
