Vanessa was born on August 5, 1983 in Los Angeles California. She is an actress TV personality known for her roles in the reality TV shows Run’s House and Project Runway: Threads.

Famous Family Upbringing

She is the daughter of Valerie Vaughn and <a href="/biography/joseph-simmons">Joseph Simmons</a>. Her father is better known as <a href="/biography/joseph-simmons">Rev Run</a>. He is a rap icon and the co-founder of the legendary hip hop group, <a href="/biography/joseph-simmons">Run-DMC. Rev</a>’s brother and Vanessa’s uncle is <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell_Simmons">Russell Simmons</a>, the hip hop mogul and founder of the iconic Def Jam record label.

Her father and mother had two other kids, Angela and Jo Jo, but Vanessa was their eldest daughter. They got divorced after some rough final years. Her father then fell in love with another woman, Justine, and together they had three children which gave Vanessa three half siblings.

While growing up, Vanessa's dream was to be an actress and a model. She got a degree in Communications in December 2007 from the University of St. John's. While she was in college, she started dating the young famous <a href="/biography/j-cole">rapper</a>, <a href="/biography/j-cole">J. Cole</a> but it was only for a brief period. She was flattered when the <a href="/biography/j-cole">rapper</a> shouted her out on one of his songs.

Acting Career

Vanessa and her siblings were brought up by their stepmother, Justine. She is very close to her sister, Angela. They are so tight, they decided to started their own shoe brand. They are a really close on a personal level. That was pretty clear to Vanessa's audience during her hot trip to Hawaii with her sister Angela while she was pregnant and thrilled with her little baby bump. During 2005 untll 2009, her family starred in the MTV Reality TV series called Run's House. The TV show remains one of her most memorable moments in her carreer. She got to appear along with her family in a light, comedic style that showed her day to day life.

In 2009, the show was cancelled, but lucikly for Vanessa, she moved on to becoming a film actress. She got a role in a TV show called Speed Dating. She starred in many things such as Dysfunctional Friends and Boogie Town.

No matter how full her hands were after the birth of her daughter, Vanessa didn’t stop working. She announced the beginning of her new web series called Mixed and it even revealed some aspects of her character to her devoted fans.

Naughty Side

In 2006, Vanessa stripped down for Maxim Magazine's Hot 100 List. Vanessa’s father was surprised to know that his daughter was going to strip down for a mens magazine. Vanessa did not like the idea of father tagging along with her to the photo shoot and instead of going with him, she had her sister, Angela accompany her. She also posed completely nude for Peta.

Vanessa had already started a business with her sister. Angela Simons. They were both designers, so they both decided to launch their own shoe brand called “Pastry”. The brand was a big hit because of the fan base that they build up on Run’s House. Due to the power of social media, the Simmons’ sisters had a lot of loyal and dedicated fans. When they asked their fans for support and advice, the fans gave them positive feedback and urged them to start their own brand.

She got some inspiration from the sexy photo shoots and convinced Angela to expand their business by introducing a lingerie line. When she launched the very sexy collection, she called it "Rose by Vanessa Jean".

That was only the beginning of the collection. Now her collection contains three lines that are called “Vintage Chic”, “Naughty Lil’ Princess” and “Rock Your Sexy”. People except their lingerie line to be as suuccesful as their footwear line.

Vanessa’s Own Family

The couple have been dating for a long time and are enjoying a great steady relationship. One day, Vanessa announced that she was pregnant for the first time and that they were excited to wait for her their baby to be born. This would be the first grandchild in Vanessa's family, so there was eagerness to meet her and shower her with their love.

Before the birth of their baby, they were so concerned with choosing her name. Vanessa wanted to pick a meaningful name for her daughter, so it took them a while to settle on their baby's name which eventually turned out to be Ava Marie Jean.

Vanessa and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Wayans">Mike</a> had a great baby shower at the Sugar Factory to celebrate Vanessa’s pregnancy. Little Ava's baby shower was jammed up with so many celebrities, the couple's parents, relatives and loved ones. Vanessa was seen looking very happy with her baby bump with <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Wayans">Mike</a> standing by her side. When the baby girl was born, she brought true happiness to the lives of her parents. When Vanessa first knew that she was pregnant, she was so nervous about telling her father. And when the cute little baby was conceived, the reason of her anxiety was validated, since her father, while being extremely happy with his granddaughter, still verbally wished that Vanessa and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Wayans">Mike</a> were married before they had the baby because he is a very traditional and religious man.

The couple is extremely busy spending time with their daughter Ava Marie Jean, who was born on Valentine’s Day. Vanessa says that she did think about a wedding, but since she got pregnant she did not want to be a pregnant bride and feels that the marriage will eventually come and she’ll be ready for it.

Vanessa’s Other Interests:

Vanessa was always a beautiful woman, one little known fact aobut her is that she took part in the Miss California Beatty Pageant back in 2008.

Vanessa has contributed to many charities, some of which are "The Children's Miracle Network Hospital" and "The Reality of Fashion, the Reality of AIDS".
