Willie Nelson was born on 29 April 1933 in Abbott, Texas, USA. His father's name is Ira Doyle Nelson and his mother's name is Myrle Marie who gave birth to Willie at the time of Great Depression. His father worked as a mechanic at the time of his birth.
Soon after the birth of Nelson his mother divorced his father and left. In a few months his father also remarried and moved on with his new wife and left. Willie and his older sister, Bobbie, were raised by their paternal grandparents, this was a very tough time in his life as he still recounts. Willie and his sister Bobbie attended their town’s small Methodist church with their grandmother. Church was where they were first exposed to music. “The first music we learned was from the hymn books. Willie had such a beautiful voice," Bobbie told Texas Monthly in 2008. Both grandparents had a musical background, and they encouraged Willie and his sister to play. Willie Nelson got his first guitarwhen he was six years old and ssoom started writing his own songs .His famous gospel song “Family Bible” was inspired by this early exposure to religious music. He sold the song to his guitar teacher for $50.
While still, 13 Nelson started to work at a local taverns and dance halls. He meanwhile attended a nearby school in which he was selected in the football as well as in basketball team. He also worked part-time jobs for the electricity company as well as a local pawn shop. He got his first proffesional music job with a local polka band. In 1947 Nelson joined the gospel group Bud Fletcher and the Texans, Bobbie was already playing piano for the band. They played the local club circuit for the next few years
After completing his school education he got himself enrolled into the United States Air Force. Chronic back problems made his military career short and he was honorable dischared after leass than a year. After leaving the military Nelson was not sure what he wanted to do next, he enrolled in a farming program at Baylor University. While pursuing his studies, he took odd jobs to make ends meet, including selling encyclopedias door to door.

Nelson still had a love for music and worked as a disc Jockey for several radio stations. Eventually he quit agriculture school so that he could fucus more on his music. Nelson spent the next few years moving around. He playing gigs at local clubs and worked to improve his song writing skills.. It was during this time that Nelson wrote some of his early songs, including "Night Life," "Crazy" and "Funny How Time Slips Away".
By 1960 Willie Nelson settled in Nashville Tenesse, the capital of country music. In 1964 he released his single I Never Cared for You. At this point in time, he was signed by RCA Victor. He soon gained success and in 1972 he formed the group called Outlaw Country. He was the most popular country musician at this point in time as he created his own genre of music.
In 1990 he had an issue with the IRS and all his assets were seizedbecause the IRS claimed he owed $32 million. Nelson released The IRS Tapes: Who'll Buy My Memories? as a double album, all the profits made from this album went to the IRS. Many of his assets were auctioned of. However, many items were purchased by friends, who donated or rented his possessions to him for a nominal fee. He sued Price Waterhouse, claiming that they had put his money in illegal tax shelters. The lawsuit was settled for an undisclosed amount and Nelson cleared his debts to the IRS by 1993.
Apart from singing he has also acted in many movies such as Coming out of the Ice, Thief, Gone Fishin, Half Baked and much more. He has also written some books such as Willie: An Autobiography, The Facts of Life and some more. Nelson became the official spokesman of the Texas Roadhouse, a chain of steakhousesin 2002.
According to GQ Willie has spent nearly half his life as America’s most famous stoner. After several states legalized marijuana Willie announced that he was going to start his own marijuana brand, Willie's Reserve . He plans to open chain stores in the states where marijuana was legalized and to expanded if marijuana is legalized in other states.
Nelson has been married four times through his life the first of which was with Martha Mathews in 1952 it lasted for 10 years. In 1991 he married his wife Annie D’Angelo with whom he is currently married. He also attends many charitable events and does activism. He is also a very vocal support of marijuana and wants it to be legalized. His net worth is estimated to be around $20 million dollars and if it wasn’t for the court case against him it would have been even more.
