<p>Yuzuru Hanyu is a world champion Japanese <a href="/biography/yuzuru-hanyu">figure skater</a> who competes in the men’s single discipline and is considered as one of the greatest figure skaters of all time. Yuzuru Hanyu was born on December 7, 1994, in Sendai, Japan. Yuzuru began skating at the age of four, following in his older sister’s footsteps. He first competed nationally at the age of nine when he skated in the Japan Novice Championships in the Novice B category; he won the gold medal at this competition. Yuzuru Hanyu has broken world records sixteen times. He holds the current world records for the short program, free skating and combined total scores.</p>

<p>Yuzuru is the first men’s <a href="/biography/yuzuru-hanyu">singles skater</a> from Asia to win multiple World Championships and was the first skater to win back to back Olympic gold medals since <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Button">Dick Button</a> in 1952. Yuzuru is a two time Olympic champion, a two time World Champion, a four time Grand Prix Final Champion and a three time Four Continents silver medalist. Yuzuru Hanyu is considered as the most popular athlete in Japan and has appeared in a number of commercials and advertising campaigns for companies such as Proctor & Gamble, All Nippon Airways, and Lotte’s Ghana milk chocolate.</p>
