Her first movie break came in 2002 when she was cast as Gerti Giggles in the movie Spy Kids 2. This movie was a huge success at the box office and it earned Emily the award for the Best Young Artist. She also did the sequel of Spy Kids movie which was also a big hit. In 2006 she was chosen to play Lilly Truscott in the TV series Hannah Montana. This show went on to become an instant success been watched by 5.4 million viewers worldwide. She later appeared in many interviews and many promotional events for Hannah Montana.

On July 7, 2010, her first single called Let's Be Friends was released. On October 5 the same year she released her first album Fight or Flight. She later went on to a US tour named Clap Your Hands tour which was a series of performances done over 9 places in the country. For promoting her first album Fight or Flight she went on to another tour called Fight or Flight tour on October 30, 2010. The tour which spanned across many countries such as Brazil, USA, Canada and more was a huge success. On November 7, 2010, she presented the award for Best Male Artist to Justin Bieber at the MTV Europe music awards. She later starred in a movie called Cyberbully which was released in 2011. This movie is about a girl who is bullied online and she has to go through a very stressful phase due to this. It was a very critically acclaimed movie.

She started appearing in a TV series called Cleaners in 2013 and for its second season in 2014. She later left her label and started a new band with her friend, called Ramshackle. In 2013 she appeared in an episode of Two and a half men named Bazinga! That's from a TV show.
