Early Life and Education

Eric Close was born on May 24, 1967, in Staten Island, New York. His father worked as a surgeon, and his mother held a position in an office. Eric is an only child. From an early age, he showed a strong interest in acting and often participated in school plays and stage productions. Encouraged by his teachers, who recognized his passion and talent, he pursued acting with dedication. His first stage performance was in a production titled Rat Songs with a small company in Los Angeles.

Close graduated from Valhalla High School in 1985. He then attended the University of Southern California, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications in 1989. During and after college, he began taking small acting roles, gradually building experience in the entertainment industry.

Transition to Television and Early Roles

Eric Close made his television debut in 1991 in a drama titled Keeping Secrets, where he portrayed a young man who falls in love with an older woman. This role marked the beginning of his career on the small screen. As he continued gaining exposure, he was cast in other television projects, expanding his range as an actor.

In 1994, he appeared in the television movie Hercules and the Lost Kingdom as Telamon. That same year, he also featured in Without Consent, a drama that did not perform notably at the box office but added to his growing body of work. These early roles helped him gain recognition in the industry and opened the door to more substantial parts.
