Essie Davis is an Australian actress who was born on January 7, 1970, in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Her birth name is Esther Davis but she adopted the stage name, Essie Davis. She grew up in Hobart, Australia where she attended Clarence High School. Upon graduating high school, Davis attended Rosney College and then the University of Tasmania where she was a member of the Old Nick Company. After graduating from university, Davis went on to attend the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney, Australia. Her career began as soon as she finished acting school and she landed her first role as Juliet in the Bell Shakespeare company's 1993 production of "Romeo and Juliet".
Later that same year, Davis appeared in "Hamlet" and "Richard III" with the same company. In 1994, Davis appeared in "Macbeth" and "The Taming of the Shrew". Her film career began in 1995 with a role in the Australian film "Dad and Dave: On Our Selection" where she appeared alongside Geoffrey Rush and Joan Sutherland. She continued her acting career and landed many roles including the role of Amelia Vanek in the 2014 horror film "The Babadook". Davis also appeared in the sixth season of the HBO series "Game of Thrones" in 2016 but her character did not make it into the following season. She married Justin Kurzel in 2002 and had two daughters, Stella and Ruby.
